QHD is the standard now. I get the battery argument, but in order for BlackBerry to compete they need to be competitive specs wise be it necessary or not.

Not arguing with you because I know companies do this and BlackBerry may too with this device. But that's really stupid. It's stupid to sacrifice something that actually has bearing on the use of the device (battery life) for needless specs so they can wave a spec sheet around like a flag. Silly.
And this place feeds right into that. Whenever a rumored device is discussed out pours a flood of "this thing better have X specs" when three quarters of the posters have no idea how said specs would translate to the actually day to day performance and utility of the device.
Basically the less pixels you have on the screen the longer the battery life. I too am hoping for a 1080p display. I really don't see the benefit in going higher.
I mean think about it. You purchase a 40" inch TV with 1080p display so why do you need a higher resolution than that on a 5" inch display. Seems silly.

They make 4K/ultra HD displays for tvs... I think 3840 X 2160. A tv is 10 feet away where a phone is 10 inches. This is just the market demand.
If people are curious, the Slider screen specs are as follows:
Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 5.1 inches (~70.7% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution 1920 x 1080 OR 1440 x 2560 pixels (~577 ppi pixel density)

The slider basically has the exact same screen except for maybe the background picture. And I don't think the icons at the bottom are soft buttons but are part of the display. Seems to go bottom of keyboard has the bumper. The blacks are very black so it's hard to see when the pixels start and when they start... definitely a super amoled display
