I posted this in the t-mobile forum but didn't get any help hopefully I have better luck here.

I bought a "used" t-mobile priv in an unopened box for $200. It has a clean imei and has never been activated. Would be a great deal but I need to use it on AT&T and that has been an issue

I went to a T-Mobile store first then called their customer support. No help. They said I have to be a T-Mobile customer for them to do anything.

Next I called BlackBerry customer support. All he could tell me was to call t-mobile.

I tried two different unlocking sites (BlackBerryCodeSource and unkockunit) both sites went passed their estimated time frame, told me they can't find the code, any issued me a refund.

The only option I see now is to buy a prepaid t-mobile sim($20), add $100 to the account, and wait 30 days...

Im hoping someone here can help me find a quicker and / or cheaper solution to my problem.

(Moderators, if this post is in violation due to the same question being posted twice, please close the thread in the t-mobile forum any leave this one open)

I was under the impression that only a T-Mobile auto loader would work on a T-Mobile device. Along with that I would assume that installing an autoloader wouldn't unlock me from their network. Anyone have any input here?

i thought it's illegal to sell network locked devices , it might need to be activated first on tmobile network than it will work on at&t,but if you run an autoloader maybe you will bypass that procedure

Only a T-Mobile autoloader will work on a T-Mobile phone. The Autoloader will not unlock your phone. Your best bet is asking a friend with a T-Mobile account to use their Sim on your phone to unlock it if the phone is paid off.

    Thanks for confirming that.
I've been looking for a friend with t-mobile since I bought the device.

You might be able to go a bit cheaper than that but still be out some money.

Just this Sat I purchased a $50 month-to-month plan/sim from Tmobile. That was the entire cost. Now they did have a $40 month/month but I would have had to pay a $20 activation which was waived for the $50 plan. Now, if you have to wait 30 days, that might double it up to $100 (or maybe only an additional $40, as I did inquire for a renewal next month) but I did not explore much beyond that.

Now, will this buy you an UNlock code eventually - that I don't know.

As I understand it from t-mobiles website. I have to have it active for 30 days and load $100 on the account. Before they'll give me an unlock code.

I did my purchase IN-Store. But this was my first Tmobile experience outfitting a second Priv with a carrier other than Verizon (which is Priv 1).

Find a friend with a t mobile account who will stick his sim in the phone, make a call and then immediately request the unlock code. Provided he hasn't asked for one in the last 30 days and is postpaid they'll send it.

Just generally what area do you live in?

Or a good way to make new friends: Wait outside a Tmobile store and jump the first interesting looking or sounding person who leaves!!!!!!!! Or maybe walk in when it seems very quiet and the reps would not be doing much else and appeal to their good graces???

I tried sweet talking the reps. Hell, I even tried bribing one. They couldn't help due to that unlocking app T-Mobile has on newer phones.

I live around Dayton, OH. T-Mobile coverage isn't that great here.
I tried sweet talking a rep. I really believe she wanted to help me out and couldn't.
I'm gonna try a manager next.

    So, UnlockUnit.com
They charged me any extra $7 and took and extra 5 days, to search what they're called their global database.
    But they got it done!
