So Im stuck in a MMS group, that once it starts going my phone gets really hot and eats through battery. I am using the messenger app for SMS/MMS messages. Has anyone else had this problem? I am thinking of moving to Hangouts to see if this also happens.

any intense action on your phone is going to cause the battery to heat up a bit and the battery to drain as well. Games, a lot of phone calls, a group messaging situation like yours....all those can make the phone run hot and drain battery.

I would figure as much. But to have the battery drop over 30% in 30 minutes seems a bit strange. It was to the point where i had my playbook charger plugged in at 35% battery. While charging the phone dropped to 34% and did not charge for the 30 minutes i had it plugged in. Then i had to unplug.
