That's unfortunate, I know. I also really love having a FM Radio. But that's it. Not a dealbreaker in any way.

FM apps mean data chargers or you'll have to find a hot spot or have an unlimited data plan which are rare these days.

Impossible because of the way antennaes work but I have always wanted AM radio in on. All my sports teams broadcast on AM. Radio quality (even FM) is so poor, I never use it for music anyway, but for sports is nice.

The FM radio on my Z30 works great. I can listened to live sports talk shows during my commute to work. When I listened to podcast it's usually at night. They help me sleep.

FM Radio does not require any data. Phones with "FM Radio" have an FM tuner/receiver and use your headphone cables as an antenna. It works just like the FM radio in your car.

What you are referring to is "Internet Radio" which does require a data connection.

People use FM radios in phones? I didnt realize FM was even relevant anymore with Sirius and Pandora and such now.

Streaming doesn't play Baseball games, public radio does

I rarely used the FM radio on my Classic. Heck my Bluetooth headset supports FM radio on its own (SE MW600)...

I thought some folks mentioned in a previous thread that the FM radio actually does use data. I still haven't tested that theory as I don't use it (I do like having the option).

I've used the FM radio in places where I don't have any internet connection, so I don't think it does

Even if some people refer to Internet Radio as FM Radio because they don't understand the difference, it is still Internet Radio, not FM Radio.

For example, the specifications for the BlackBerry Classic show that it does has a built in FM Radio:

FM RADIO FM Radio receiver (headset as antenna)

I was referring to Internet radio. My Z30's FM radio allows me to listened to live events like a baseball game which can last up to 3 hours. I can hear that 3 hour baseball game without blowing through my data plan.

FM radio doesn't use data. It's like the radio in your house or in your car.

I see that the Z30 does not have an internal FM Radio, but the Passport, Classic, and Q5 do. I use the TuneIn Radio app sometimes when I have WiFi, but it's nice to have real over the air FM radio as a option when I don't.

It's not in BlackBerry's specifications for the Z30, but I found it in the Z30 User Guide.

If I recall when the Z30 first came out,the FM radio wasn't functional. Later upgrades activate the FM radio.
