So I pulled the trigger on the factory unlocked at shopbb. Will it start to download the OS update to MM over WiFi before I get a sim card in it? It would be great to try and have the OS software, apps and content transfer somewhat settled before I get a sim and start daily driving it.

You can update without a SIM card, if I recall correctly. I think it even offers the update as soon as you turn it on.

Great! I'm figuring I'll get the feel of it for a few days off network and then go get a sim.

How long is the shopbb contractor taking to ship these days. I know it was an issue in the past. Anybody in the upper Midwest? How long from ship to delivery?

Why don't you just dive in? It's not rocket science, it's just a(n) (mostly friendly) OS. It won't bite

Technically I will. I just want to try and get all the software settled and get used to the gestures a bit for the first few days. I'm one of those guys that maps out road trips online and studies the routes a few days in advance even though I have GPS in my car.

I'm more of a business user so I need things to be a little bit intuitive before I drive it daily (make sure contacts all update properly, calendar, emails, etc).

Great phone. I have the same shopbb version and it's constantly amazing me. The keyboard rocks on longer emails.

Of course, I was just kidding. It just so happened the past three or four times that my previous phones were almost completely dead when I switched them so I didn't have that opportunity. And I survived

I hear ya. I went straight to BB10 on Q10 from Bold 9900 (OS7 maybe?) and got the gestures and lack of toolbelt pretty quickly.

I'm sure BB10 to droidberry will be a little steeper learning curve but have no doubt I'll get pretty fluid with it after a period of a few days.

For now, I wait. Got the order confirm late last night so just waiting for it to ship so I can start tracking it.

Wow, got the tracking number today and it could be here Saturday (that's what the FedEx site shows right now at "label created" status). Glad I didn't pay for express shipping. I had prepared myself for not getting the phone til late next week.

Unfortunately I never used BB10, but Android is pretty straightforward, I'm sure you'll get it in no time. Feel free to ask if you need any help setting it up etc.

I'm glad you'll have it so soon. You might even have it up and running by Monday.

10-4, thanks. Most likely with a busy schedule this weekend, I won't get to att until Tues to get a sim. But if it does come Saturday, that will give me the few days I want to get the device "in order". And with college football starting Saturday it likely won't even get unboxed until late Saturday night. Party!

April 2015 box date. WTH BlackBerry? Someone needs to teach these guys what FIFO is. SMH.

Yah, I know, why does box date matter right? It just makes me wonder how many times this device has been returned, refurb'd, and re-shipped in the last 17 months.

On the upside, it found software update right away during setup so it's charging and downloading now. Not going to do another thing to it until all the updates are done. Current one is 1.8GB so I am assuming it's MM.

Are you sure you're reading the date right? It's ddmmyy, mine says 230516.

    Congrats on the phone
It probably is. I received a 1.8 GB update the first time I turned it on as well and it was MM.

Well, it's half the time from what you originally thought it was. That's a plus. Besides, it's a phone, it doesn't have an expiration date afaik
That said, I was actually a bit glad to see that mine was less than three months old when purchased so I can understand that you're not exactly happy about it. But if there were no changes in the actual manufacturing process and it's not refurbished or something, it doesn't really make any difference.

The important thing is whether or not you like it so far?

Yah I get it that it's no big deal really. It's all in my head. It's just weird that they don't do a first in first out method with inventory.

Won't be driving it for a while as I get everything updated over the weekend. Won't get a sim til Tuesday.

Played with the keyboard a bit and confirmed what others have said...not a great tactile response compared to Q10, especially the space bar. That could be a deal-breaker if I can't type like a beast on it.

You already said that you won't really be using it, but I thought you tried installing some apps etc. to see how it works while it was downloading the update.
I don't think you'll have much problems with the keyboard, I believe you'll get used to it. The last hardware keyboard phone that I used was HTC Desire Z two years ago and I could type 50 WPM after 5 days of owning the Priv. I normally type 60-70 on a PC keyboard so I think that's more than satisfactory. Don't know about the tactile response compared to the Q10, though.

No apps yet. MM just finished. College football is going to delay too much more today.
