I can't wait until the "Android was always the best choice" arguments start coming up and the "I've always liked Android" discussions start, especially from the people in here who live to flame every OS other than BB10.

    Android can suck it.

One can only hope this is a brilliant marketing scheme to get the attention of Android users to notice BlackBerry and gain some market share in the process.

Check NIST website to see if certification is in progress. FIPs certification is the key and the "secure" that Chen is talking about.

    Posted via CB10
Your assuming BlackBerry is dumping BB10 altogether. The Android slider could be targeted to the consumer market not enterprise so any security certification would be moot. What could be happening is BlackBerry will dump the forked runtime from its BB10 devices for use in enterprise and release pure OHA Android devices for the consumer market.

I'll buy it because it'll be a new gadget,.. but mostly out of curiosity (like how I bought the Passport).

I don't get why people here are so quick to close the door. Let's see what BlackBerry can do here.

I've been through this with the PlayBook, and if they release an Android phone then they are abandoning BB10, even if they say otherwise. Android and the runtime ruined PlayBook and BB10. Made it usable, but killed it at the same time by killing off native development. Just a matter of time till the Android device is abandoned too and they go full software. Why keep giving these clowns money when the plan is to abandon the people when they get their software plans in order. They can't compete with their own OS, and won't with one others are failing with too.

Native app development for the Playbook and BB10 was stillborn from launch. BlackBerry failed to get native google app support/services the same way Apple did when it launched IOS.

I hope the rumors are true, which hopefully means I will finally be able to just use one phone for everything (currently, I am using a Q10 as a daily driver, plus a Nexus 5 to get my work emails and some apps)!

Nope they announced the runtime before the PlayBook even launched. Told everyone it would run any Android app. Why would devs develop for PlayBook/BB10 when they already did the development?

Looking forward to what BlackBerry can do here with this. If it's true and this is a high end device, then I'll definitely check it out. I love BB10, and if these reports are true, hope they can keep most things from BB10 and apply it as their own unique Android skin like every other brand has done.

64-bit CPU + hypervisor + virtualize the radio interface and you have both BB10 and Android running at once. This, I don't believe, would violate OHA "rules" either...... and it would be QUITE unique.

    1. @evleaks has done a whole lot of leaks since his "retirement." You don't even have to scroll very far down his Twitter feed to see this for yourself.
    2. Of course it's superimposed, it's a render. The idea here is that this is, supposedly, an official render from BlackBerry.

Now, none of this is to say that he can't be wrong - he has made a few mistakes in the past. But his track record is, on the whole, pretty remarkable. I'd certainly never bet against any of his leaks.

You gotta be kidding. No one is paying me to use these devices, I'm purchasing them. So I'm not going to get emotional, just continue to make decisions based on facts.

BlackBerry may also be trying to satisfy the average consumer by producing an Android phone while keeping BB10 for Enterprise and security & privacy minded users.

I'd pay more for a high end device like a BlackBerry with BB10.

I may be giving Mr. John Chen the benefit of the doubt by stating that he may already know that there are quite a few people that feel the way I do.

I hope it make a BB10 version too. The HUB and gestures is two MUST things on BlackBerry phones.
For me the actual android runtime it is enough for a few android apps what I use (banking, local news, finance...)
I like the HUB and the gestures base OS!

Please refer to IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise Mobility Management Software 2014 Vendor Assessmen . . . a bunch of EMM software has been implemented at offices of large enterprises around the globe. For instance

    Good - Customers
    AirWatch - Customers

Such EMM software does not necessarily support BlackBerry 10 devices.

    Good ‐ Certified Devices
BlackBerry Opens BlackBerry 10 Operating System to Multiple MDM Platforms | AirWatch

I suppose that BlackBerry Limited may have to introduce Yellow-greenBerry devices (with Android OS installed) if the company wishes to stay in hardware business.
