I just noticed the Priv on the Eastlink web site. It is $349 plus $18 a month or $901 outright. If you bring your own phone, you get a $5 discount on Eastlink, so rather than $18 a month, if you had your own phone with them, you loose the $5 discount, which brings it to $23 a month, plus the $349 up front, which amounts to that same as the $901 cash price. In effect, they are providing interest free financing.

    edit:

Direct link to the phone listing didn't work, changed it to the list of phones Eastlink offers. You can select the Priv from there.

I just changed the link to the list of phones Eastlink offers. The original link may have only worked if you started in the list of phones page.

Who's network does Eastlink piggy back off of? Bell?

Is Bell the only network with LTE-Advanced?

I believe they have their own towers in Atlantic Canada as they are a regional provider.

Right on... what about when you're traveling across the rest of Canada? Bell's towers?

They will not say who they partner with, but my impression is they originally used Telus, but now use Telus and Bell in Nova Scotia where there is no Eastlink tower . I was in Kingston Ontario this summer and noticed I was on mobility, so their partners may vary by region.

Eastlink is the original cable company in this region and starting a couple of years ago, began putting up their own cellular towers. One of the large US web sites rated their cellular data speeds as one of the best in North America.

The editor of CrackBerry is in Easlink's home town and may have more details on Eastlink's roaming partners.

Good to know... I live in the East but work in Alberta so that's why I've always been with Bell... the coverage is very good no matter where you are... I might have to look into Eastlink...

Easlink is quite a bit cheaper than the others if you have more than one phone in the family and you are willing to share the data. Once they got coverage in the eastern shore, where my wife had to travel for work occasionally, I switched her from Bell onto the same plan as my son and I. Her Bell bill was about $75 a month. Adding her to share my 3gig of data was about $40, since her existing phone worked on Eastlink.
