Brandon O - Looks like DTEK tells you when an app is using a service that might compromise your security/priv

Looks cool, but I think would like option to turn off DTEK

    What about you guys?

That could get real annoying real fast. There has to be a way to specify under what circumstances you want to be notified as well as turn it off all together. Silent option would be the best. You can review the logs at your own leisure, but no notifications are sent.

Perhaps I would always keep DTEK turned on but I would like to choose how often and for what kind of severity notices keep popping up on screen.

I personally would like to turn it off if possible because I'm not using many apps..only use few apps, only download from trusted source

Silly people that care about security, and weirdos that want a best-in class pkb, and dumb-dumbs who want a well-built device with great specs.

We demand security and damn it, it better not drain my battery, or annoy me, or work... lol. I agree though, I would hope that there is the ability to white list apps and even certain processes within the app. I agree to let this app access my camera, but not my location, etc.

Android have been slowly making more and more stuff MUST in their compliance documents - so from 6.0 onwards where DOZE is introduced, it must run unaltered by the OEM. We are also seeing more and more permissions being surfaced. This is partly why I think Chen is taking a stab at Android, he realises that without movement from BBRY that by Android 8.0 or 9, the security will be "good enough" for most holdouts - you can see that also in how Google are making changes to the Kernel.

Think you can drill down to each app and see what app access what resources too. So if you see an app access your SD card and you can know.

You can turn off, or customize what ever you want. I don't think BB want to annoy you, they just offer a solution.

Oh, this is awesome. I've wanted a feature like this in Android for a long time. It will allow me to see in real time what apps are abusing their permissions, or using permissions that I don't want them using.

I used App Ops (stand alone app) to control App permissions under 4.0 - 4.2. The ability to do this went away with 5.0 & now it's being introduced in 6.0 as native to Android OS.

If you combine DTEK with the 6.0 permissions checks, you will have a very powerful tool to take back control of your phone.

I am not sure but would app permissions and dtek work with system level apps (Google play services)?

Or BlackBerry won't let them load their crapware on. So in retaliation, Verizon delays the release. When Marshmallow hits, they will still be 5.1.1 until they can figure out how to load more crapware (a.k.a. "approve the update")

BlackBerry has control over the vetting of the apps in its own appstore.

When I used App ops, I was able to control system level apps, but it resulted in really bad things happening. The system level stuff really does need most of the permissions to run correctly.
