Ok so double tap to wake is generally a battery hog, I assume because the whole screen is on in some kind of low power mode the whole time.

Does anybody know if the feature behaves any differently with the flip case? E.g. Does only a smaller part of the screen stay active and therefore use less power?

Yes, only the small cut out is on.

Could be trouble if you install the phone upside down.
