I guess this confirms the curved display
Unfortunately judging by the "remaining time to fully change", the slider probably won't have fast or turbo charging capabilities. Too bad as this would be a nice feature on a phone with a non-replaceable battery

Now I'm lusting for this slider. My son has mocked me for years for keeping my Torch, now four years old. I've said unless I can have a BlackBerry with both a touch & regular keyboard plus a slider, I'm not giving up my Torch no matter how many times I drop it. Looks like I'm about to get my wish!

and I'm not a crackberry newbie; they just can't seem to recognize me anymore

I still can't see the pictures I posted. That's weird! When I scroll through the thread, I still see no pictures, from anyone. Might have to clear my cache, maybe that's why.

Attachment 372886 here's a picture from the editorial that was just put up on what's known or not known of the slider. It indeed has a curved screen and display. I hope that this charging use of the side screen stays in the final software.
Displaying info like this, only on the edge, is advantageous with AMOLED displays since power is only used for what's displayed, versus powering the whole screen, as with LED's.

It appears that edges of the screen are only slightly curved.

Yes, that's why there has been so much debate, but keep in mind this is a digitally created render, not a photograph, so it may not be entirely accurate. I've already noticed differences between the earlier and later renders.

it's as deep as the S6 Edge, not as deep as the Note Edge.

S6 edge (remember that the S6 edge is about 2mm thinner than the Priv)

The idea that was posted that is should be used as an app switcher (customisable to put a certain amount) is a great idea. Does the s6 edge or note edge have something like that or is ot purely for notifications and colour coded incoming calls/msgs etc?

Correction . . . it appears that edges are slightly curved according to http://images.derstandard.at/2015/09/30/side.jpg which is found in Priv: Hands on with Blackberry's first Android phone - derStandard.at .

    QUOTE

The Priv presents itself with a 5.4 inch curved display. The curves, however, are by far not as distinct as you see them on Samsung's Galaxy Edge devices. The panel runs a 2K resolution (2.560 x 1.440 px). The extremely high pixel density of 544 PPI matters in terms of VR, but during daily use its impossible to spot a difference to regular Full HD panels with the naked eye.

Question: Could one develop a curve-edged glass cover over a flat led screen, whereby the the peripheral output of the led screen was visible side on, perhaps ONLY side on? Or, must the display screen, under the glass, be curved to achieve that effect? Either way, I'm content. Notifications visible from the side, I'm a happy camper.

Lets say the display screen is a totally flat LED. It is covered by glass with curved edges. Is it possible to have a message on the edge of the led (running vertically and say only a mm in width) which is rendered more obvious when the device is viewed side on, because of some optical quality in the curve of the glass. I'm trying to understand what is going on at the edge, given the fact that some claim it is an LED display which cannot itself be curved. I'm wondering if this isn't a rather clever initiative from blackberry allowing them to use a non curved display LED? made to look curvy because of the optic qualities of the overlying glass. Or do you believe it has to be amoled> Either way, I'm happy there are edge notifications viewable side on.
