I will cop the Priv with pre-registration and looking forward to using it for streaming lossless and possibly hi-res music (If possible). Also wondering what the audiophiles out there think of BB audio.

I am pondering the final "End of Life" for my Playbook. The reason I am still hanging (clinging) on to it is mostly it's awesome sound quality.

According to the Masters of Audio over at neutronmp the Audio DAC Chip in the Playbook is a Wolfson Audio Chip (Wolfson WM8994E) which the way it is implemented drives High End headphones pretty decent. I have compared the Playbook to numerous other pieces of hardware from Asus, Samsung and others and not one can measure up to it. The Asus Transformer Infinity comes close though.

I had a BlackBerry Passport for a while and it also has some pretty amazing audio performance, but lacks the "Headphone Audio Boost" function of the Playbook - in case you like to play it loud every once in a while. And if you are using high end in ear monitors you get a little pop in the headphones when you plug them into the audio jack, signalling the engagement of a decent amplifier. ;-)

Samsung has been using Wolfson Audio in <some> models, but for some reason they have different incarnations of hardware on the same model phone. Go figure.

As for the BlackBerry Priv - who knows?! It has not been "torn apart" by anyone that has spilled the beans about it's insides yet. Blackberries.ru took it apart, but what they found inside is anyones guess. :-)
It is at least marketed as a phone with "Great Audio". To me that says Wolfson Audio, since they have used it before... Only one way to find out though, buy a Priv, install Neutron and give it a go on some decent headphones.

Also, please post results here. If the Priv really sounds as good as the Playbook I know what I want for Xmas!!
