    Blackberry Priv Black Retail Stv100-1 - (PRD-60027-008) - SoftwareCity.ca - Canada

This is the first time the device has shown up on a reseller website. Unfortunately the price not completely out of line given the poor performance of the Canadian dollar...

I'm hoping that this is just a placeholder and the device retails for less than the listed $949.00CAD MSRP. What was Passport when it first came out? $699CAD? Given that the dollar is ~30% less valuable now, that would put Passport at $880.00 if released today.

850 for me. I set aside 1000 dollars for the phone. But I expected to be able to maybe buy a case and screen protector too. Any more than that and I simply can't justify it.

Nope. $800 is the most I'm willing to pay. And even at that point it's more than what I'd ideally pay. at $950 they're probably taking home $650 which is insane... I'd like to support BlackBerry but dang... I'm not a multimillionaire..

$949 + tax in my province is $1072.37. The LG G4 is $599 CAD + tax and AT LEAST I'LL HAVE A PROPER SELFIE CAM AND AN EXTRA TV REMOTE.

but dat keyboard doe, prob still buy it anyway

True, I've been buying phones for a while and see this all the time. Sadly it'll be more expensive than most of us want to spend on it.

I would imagine bulk of the cost come from the slider and keyboard components. R&D and on top of that low volume order on a specific part.

But then I'm still holding my judgement. Math adds up for that price but, whole thing doesn't. CPW's launch price is consistently $100 CAD over the actual launch price in US and Canada for past devices, including the Passport. Maybe it's their so-called "exclusive pre-orders".

now that's a potential deal breaker, unless the carriers will have a really good deal on it and a good plan. If it's still around $300 up front with a 2 year contract, it is really a hard sell considering other flagship phones will be around $ 100 or $50.
don't ruin it for me now

So I guess this settles the debate. I'm 100% that is the MSRP, at least for unlocked.

Black Friday coupon is the last hope.

I'll end up getting it subsidized on a two year term, but even there I'd think twice about paying more than $199. My Z30 is running fine so it would be hard to justify, I can wait.

Think twice about doing that. You can get MUCH better monthly plans without. At least for me, assuming Telus is selling for $950 which is around the same as the S6 Edge 64GB (yes, BlackBerry priced it against that with a 32GB unit):

    $470 upfront + 2 years of $20 premium phone fee + 2 years of 4GB/unlim at $85 = $2990 total cost excl taxes

My current plan is $49.50+tax for 5GB/Unlim , on Koodo, same service, $950 + 2 years of 5GB/unlim at $49.5 = $2138 total cost excl taxes

There's no "subsidy" here, just financing.

The screen probably costs more than any other single component. My personal opinion is that it is a waste of resources, but I get that consumers believe it is cool and important thing to have.

I know. I'll probably end up paying more for it at the end of the day on a term, but considering I have 3 other devices also coming up for renewal at the same time, purchasing four "premium devices" outright is going to get expensive upfront.

Yes, I agree with the screen, but I will reserve judgment until final release, to see how they are using the screen or is it just gimmicky like the Edge.

If BB do have a relatively small order run, they probably do need to introduce it at the higher price point and back order for the next "wave" of buyers at a few dollars less.

Personally I like that it had the Edge. Outside of the S6 nothing I know of has it, and it helps demonstrate that the device is packing up to date specs without getting into the internal detailing.

If you look at the price of the Samsung S6 Edge Plus, and factor in the built-in sliding keyboard.... it's really not a bad price!

But then you factor in that all indications are that most people don't want a built-in sliding keyboard.... and then paying $60 US less for the S6 Edge Plus is maybe the move that many consumers will make.

I consider the Priv to be closer to the Edge than the Edge Plus.
