I'd love to be proven wrong on this - the ability to deny network access would make a lot of apps much more secure.
Assuming you are on Marshmallow, you can deny any app the permission to use cellular data while in the background.
Go to to the data settings, tap on an up and the option is there. It can still use wifi, if you are logged in to wifi.

actually, you can ,but you have to install another app to manage those you want to block.

    it's called "uusafe"
An app? I don't find it in the Playstore.

yes, almost every Chinese priv owner are using it.
it's the best or only permission managing app for non-rooted device. it can stop apps from auto-start, running in the background ,read your contacts or access to internet.
you can find the official release version here (for android 5.1)
    HOME|Moboclean

it has a unreleased version for android 6.0 but it's still under testing, I can send you a copy if you are interested

then you must try it , it works very well in Lollipop, the test version for 6.0 still has a few bugs.

it will uninstall the app you want to manage (lost its setting and data), resign it (get the ablility to manage its permissions) and reinstall it.
after that ,you will be able to control background running ,autostart, internet/contact/sms/phone/loaction accessing, most senstive permissions in most apps.

I'm using the "Buttonsremapper" app for the middle key together with the newly release Privacy Shade app. Works perfectly!

Maybe you'll find the answer sooner if you ask in the DTEK50 subforum. We who use the Priv unfortunately have no way of knowing that.

Fantastic, thanks for this! I use now Button Remapper for much more! Great when using Nova Launcher or some other launcher, to get the keyboard functionality to launch apps etc.
