Changing my «cracked» PRIV to a new, unlocked, PRIV unit

Just dropped my PRIV on concrete floor. Still operates nicely but I'm afraid it won't last long.
I'm using a French Android OS so sorry if I'm not as accurate with the terms I'm using.
My actual PRIV backs up on my gmail account.
I just bought a new unlocked unit and would like to know the steps to transfer everything smoothly (apps, email accounts, calendars, apps data, etc.)

So....
Since I have time ahead and that broken unit still works...
1. How can I check that my back-up is done correctly ?
2. How can I make sure that everything will transfer ?
3. When do I need to contact my carrier (Bell Mobilité) ?
4. How do I restore my data on the new PRIV ?

Welcome to Crackberry. Sorry about your broken Priv.

You can use Content Transfer app. Since you have gmail, your Contacts and possibly Calendar will be synced when you reestablish that ID on the new priv. I recommend manually copying over pictures, music, video, docs, etc. Content Transfer can be very slow. Content transfer will only transfer 3,500 text messages. There are 3rd party apps if you have more. Any apps that you've acquired will also come back (my took overnight) when you establish your gmail again.

You might not need to contact your carrier but it probably won't hurt. Just move the sim card. You may still have to manually restore some stuff.

I'm curious, what phone did you transfer your data from to your current PRIV? What method did you employ and is there a reason you can't use the same method if it was successful
and satisfactory then? Just wondering.

Hi !
Switched from a Z10 to the PRIV. Used the Content Transfer app. It was OK but not fully «successful». At the time, I had some issues with the transfer. I manage quite a few e-mail and social media accounts and all did not transfer well. Plus, some app data did not transfer as well.
But I see there has been upgrades and updates to the Content Transfer app. So I will give it a try, especially that I'm switching from Android to Android...

Process as started as I received the new unit today.
Fully charged! Done !
Turned on. Done !
Went through all first steps without SIM card. Done!
Now the unit is uploading and updating all apps and OS
...
takes forever (more than a 100 app!):rotfl:

The Priv is a great phone, though it is feeling it's age now. Love the form factor and wish someone would see its value and come up with a much improved Priv 2. Switching devices is always an adjustment time. Hope you enjoy your Priv and the switching and data transfer goes smoothly. When I came from the Passport to the Priv it all went well. Easy peasy as they say. [emoji3][emoji106]

Back after apps and OS update are done √.
Will now start Content Transfer app.

Finally, got everything on the new phone.
For some of the apps I'm using, I will have to do a back-up and restore of the data (i.e. time sheet or track miles).
Also have to put back in place all apps on screen so it will look the same.
Had to re-enter all passwords... (of course!)
Over time, I made a lot of configs on the old phone: alarms, notifications, parameters, etc. Have to redo everything. My preferences did not follow...

Since I have a back-up of the old one, is there a way to restore that backup on the new phone ?


Overall, a smooth process but VERY LONG process.
