why is this and how do I fix it? Blackberry Priv

Hello try this..go into contacts and select top left ALL contacts. Below you will have ALL accounts that are your contacts. Below select settings. Make sure all your accounts are Enabled including SIM. Now select your PHONE app and top right (symbol 2 heads together) will display all your contacts available with the different colors that you enabled on your accounts.
    Good luck.

OK. You have 2 options here.

    OPTION 1
1: open launcher and go to settings. Top right 3 dots
2: select keyboard shortcuts. Here you can use LONG press or SHORT press. You then SPEED dial and then you will be asked for the contact.

TIP: you can also assign both LONG and SHORT press to same speed dial contact

    OPTION 2

1: open launcher and go to shortcuts.
2: select speed dial widget and drag to screen
3: open widget and assign a contact.

TIP you can place as many SPEED DIAL widgets on a screen and they are all available to meet use when needed

    Hope clear.

    Good luck

The Launcher is the Home Screen Icons page or pages. When you tap and icon, the Launcher opens the app. The Launcher allows you to arrange and move icons around and use Widgets. The BB Launcher is what comes on the Priv. It allows you to use the Physical Keyboard to also launch apps by pressing the Letter Keys.

There are lots of other Launchers that you can use in place of the BB version. Each has its own little differences and lots of people like Nova or some others.

Don't worry there is learning curve with Android. Personally have used the launcher that comes with PRIV. Works perfectly. I would switch launchers once you are overall more comfortable with Android.

Do comment if able to set speed dials! Good luck.

ok, but I still can't set a speed dial. I drag the speed dial widget/shortcut to the desktop and it opens a list of contacts THAT IS NOT COMPLETE. This is the problem I am having. Whatever method I tried to use to set a speed dial results in a list of contacts to pick from that is NOT COMPLETE? For example, there are no E's listed at all!!

Please, how do I fix this?

    thanks

I am not sure why ALL contacts are not showing.

Open the Contacts App. Just above the list of Contacts there are Tabs: Favorites, AllContacts and Groups. You can Select All.

But also the Upper Left Menu (3 lines, also called the Hamburger Menu) and you can Select which "set" of contacts to display. Maybe sure you again have All Contacts showing. For instance I have Local Contacts (219), BBM (7), Primary gmail (259), Yahoo (none) and 3 on my Sim card.

How are yours distributed? How do you get/sync/add yours?

I went into the hamburger menu and it shows me that All Contacts = 308, but "Custom View" shows only 279, and "Custom View" is in blue.

So I tap on Custom View and it shows me the accounts I have. I tap on each of those and I check EVERYTHING there is to check in all my accounts, and still the Custom View only shows 279 of the total of 308.

WHY?? and how to i either get rid of this Custom View or modify it to show ALL of my contacts.

Can you figure out what/who is missing? Any relationship between them in common? Sim Contacts, bbm, etc?

I haven't read all the posts but what I like to do is go into the shortcuts menu and choose speeddial shortcut. You will drag it to the homescreen and then you will assign a contact to it. I like to keep them all together in one folder. I also keep the dialer shortcut in there. That way ijust open the folder and touch the dialer shortcut and proceed to enter the number. With the contact shortcuts though, once you have them assigned you just touch it once and it will call that contact. It's really extremely handy. I do the same thing for text shortcuts on the people I text most often.

Go into your contacts app settings and make sure that it's set to sync just your contacts with Google. It seems like that's the only way I can get all of them to show

Apparently you are trying to set specific keys on the physical keyboard as speed dial. Is that correct? If so, find the BlackBerry Help app icon in the app drawer. When you open it, tap the magnifying glass and type in speed dial. When the page opens, select "using keyboard shortcuts". That will give you step by step instructions. Hope this helps. Also, in your contacts app, just click on all contacts and disregard custom view until you get more acclimated.

...and I do all of that and when I get to the point where the Speed Dial Shortcut opens the contacts so I can pick the damn speed dial contact ....THE LIST IS INCOMPLETE! (sorry, not yelling at you specifically)

And HOW do I get rid of the damn Custom View???

Like I said, I give up.. Fed up with screwing with it when the same thing happens everytime....incomplete contacts. It simply can't be done on this phone

Understand, when I just open the contacts app, ALL my contacts are there, everytime. But when I get the contacts app as a resujlt of the speed dial shortcut, the list is incomplete....again....everytime!

Sorry you're having so much trouble. What model Priv do you have and which carrier. What accounts do you have listed for contacts. I probably won't be much help because all my contacts are local. I don't have any linked with an email account such as outlook or Gmail. I don't know exactly what custom view is in contacts either. The few speed dials I have are on the phone app itself and I don't use the physical keyboard. Not much help, I know. Sorry.

To get rid of the custom view you have to go into the contacts app settings and select all. If you have several accounts there should be a list of them underneath that. If that is present you should be able to see them all. Another thing to check, and I know it's a pain, but I ran into it. Check all your contacts individually and make sure that some haven't been added together. If you find that, you can separate them so that they show individually. I ran into it after the marshmallow update. A bunch of my contacts got merged and they wouldn't pop up and auto fill when I tried to text people. Once I got them all separated I could see them when I went to text. I'm guessing that's a similar thing to the problem you are having. It was maddening until I figured it out and then it was a simple fix. Sorry I didn't mention it before now. Just thought of it

OK. Here's another thought. Until you get the keyboard / contacts /speed dial issue straight, you can set up speed dial in the phone app. If you can see all of your contacts from the phone app, which I believe you said you could, just open the contacts you want and click on the star. That will make those contacts appear in the phone app as speed dials when you press the star icon. This screen also serves as a limited recents list but the starred contacts / speed dials will always be at the top. This may not be convenient for you, but it will temporarily allow you to have speed dials at your fingertips. Not quite as efficient, but workable. Yes it is frustrating and kind of complicated, but once you get everything straightened out it works pretty well. Someone will always be around in here to help.
