I realize that blackberry is not sending out the official update, but I've read that other PRIV users have found a bootlegged Nougat version on tha web.

Can we use this or is this not gonna work with our PRIVS?

You should be able to upgrade to Nougat or something similar, as soon as someone figures out how to root the device. And I don't think anybody is even trying anymore.

You'd also need to be able to unlock the bootloader (which currently isn't possible) and you'd have to get BB's encryption keys, because the hardware won't run any OS components not signed with BB's key.

Which means that unlike most phones, there can't be any third-party development of the OS. That's a BB feature that you paid extra to have!

The term 'rooted' pretty much covers all that, except the BB encryption keys, which wouldn't be needed any longer. Course the hardware root of trust, or what ever it's called is what needs the BB keys and is the reason the device prob won't be rooted
