I would like to buy a Priv for cash from ATT, but I am on Tmo. Is anyone offering an unlocking service? Is it possible?
If you buy it at full price from AT&T as a non-customer, they're supposed to it for free: att.com/deviceunlock
The hard part may be buying at full price as a non-customer.
Yep, ATT refuses to sell me a phone if I'm not a customer. The only way to order online is to create a contract of some sort.
Somebody please buy Blackberry already.
Pre-orders make people wait a month, and ATT gets rewarded with an exclusive? Guess what BB, you're not that sexy! Nobody is moving to ATT because of the "hot new Blackberry" Another slow train wreck for Mr. Chen.
Who said AT&T has an exclusive?
And it's fairly logical that they won't sell you, a non-customer their phone. AT&T's product is actually their service, not phones (contrary to what reps may think.)
But I digress. Why do you want to buy from AT&T, specifically? If you can wait a couple of weeks, you can buy it from ShopBB. It's the same model as AT&T's plus it will come unlocked so you can use it with your TMO service right away.
As I have said in my post earlier today, carriers have priority over first in line pre order customers.
You should know by now that people just like to complain and will look for something/anything to start.
I would like nothing better than to stop complaining about Blackberry you *****. I am trying to buy the phone they want to sell.
Hey there,
Yes the AT&T Priv (as well as Canadian versions) can be unlocked 100% we've been unlocking them all day for customers and exporters. If you are trying to get an AT&T Priv with no contract it might be hard until next week as they seem to be wanting to hold onto stock for existing customer right now.
But try your luck if you get lucky great! Nothing better.
Also raino is correct, request them to provide the code if you buy it outright as they are supposed to.
But if they refuse then don't worry we can help. Email me anytime Sean @ BlackberryCodeSource.com
Cheers
Sean
You need to wait 2 months before they unlock your phone after you buy it,i was going to do the same yesterday but when I asked if it would be unlocked that's what he told me,so I had to order it from shop BlackBerry and wait until the 23 to get it if I'm lucky.

Not just that... the AT&T store I visited refused to sell me the phone at full retail, even though I have an existing AT&T account in good standing. They would only sell it if I purchased it via their "Next" plan.
Wow.....that's a first

Interesting. Since you're an existing customer, you should be able to do it online. Have you tried that?
I would rub it in and do a store pickup, if possible.
Buying online is a good idea...

Thanks for the information, I have had you unlock a few Blackberry phones for me in the past and always great service.
Now I am thinking of picking an AT&T version and having you unlock it for me, if I can find a store in my area that has one in stock and are willing to sell it to me at full retail?
Hey bakron1!
How are you my friend!
Yes it's hard to find one right now, but if you call around you may find a store that will agree(it's worked in the past) or since you've bought so many AT&T blackberry's in the past maybe go to the same store and ask if they will sell it no contract, Hopefully they can.
We will be glad to unlock it for you anytime
Have a great weekend everyone!
They will sell you one as a non-customer, there is a way around it.
Tell them you want a Priv as a Go-Phone. You will buy it outright, and then they charge you like an extra $15 for a sim and you're good to go. It won't be unlocked out the gate, but its the same handset anyone else would get. Note that ATT won't unlock it themselves if its sold as a Go-Phone until it has 6months of service on it. It's their vain attempt to keep handsets they sell active on their own network. You can still pay to unlock it elsewhere though.
It's how I got my second one for my Fiance (first is a shopbb preorder).
That was a sales consultant trying to lock in more commission.
Agreed ATT is trying hard to get everyone on their Next plans.
Great suggestion -puck-
Hopefully people have A better chance buying like that.
In Canada it's much easier to buy no contract from the big 3 (Rogers, Bell and Telus)
