I'm living in Shanghai right now and my Chinese speaking co-workers buy from Taobao all the time. They get a mixture of fake stuff and real stuff, but usually the fake stuff was known to be fake when they bought it.

OK, so I read the Chinese version of the auction. It's stated there as a "pre-order" which for some reason it's not showing in the English version of the auction.

Difference between the two prices are the two version of bands, with the Euro band version commanding a premium. Which is natural because in China, China Unicom uses the same 3G bands as Europe, i.e. 900/2100.

I do remember @crackberrykevin (dead to me) buying a BlackBerry I think 9000 on ebay pre release. Got the device and it was exactly as advertised.

I personally wouldn't go near this with a 10ft pole.

Don't want to 'back-seat' mod here, but just want to note that the thread was a market place thread, and the activity within it clearly exceeded the intended scope of that subforum. It is well within a moderator's job to deal with a situation like that, either by continually deleting posts that don't fit,.. or when it gets out of hand, putting an end to the whole thing.
