    So, I've never shopped TaoBao before, but on AliExpress, I've had some situations where the seller was legitimately able to take and keep my money because they were backordered/pre-ordered and not available, which can be months out!

    You know something you have resale channels to sell will be out- eventually... you take charge now preorders- give confirmation etc. Tell them you are awaiting official ship date. Sit on preorder $$$ making interest for however long, refund any of those that ask- and ship the products once you get them... profit... nothing wrong or illegal as long as you do deliver the product and you inform whatever info you should.

    This is practically the same business model as issuing mail order rebates, they get to use your money for free while it processes etc... that time is extended if refunds are done via gift cards or visa cards.
