Its not simply buyers - phones generally see an uptick after release because new buyers search for help with set-up, features, cases etc.

Unfortunately, Priv launch does look like to be worse than Passport, which launched November last year. The time of the year, sold out as well, with more Passport in initial stock.

As I have stated in other threads, BlackBerries were never popular in the U.S. I'll bet that even with the hype surrounding the Priv the average American is simply not aware that it even exists.

Comparing to what I remember of Passport's launch, I think Priv gets way better reviews from media and tech bloggers. But on Google trends seem to suggest Priv got way less attention from the public, maybe Chen was right to be super cautious about controlling inventory. At least for everyone device they sell at the price, they are making money.

The Passport got solid reviews all around. The only complaint iirc was lack of apps.

The data was global, not just from US. If it's only US data, it would look way worse.

Passport 's review got better over the time. On launch it was treated like an odd ball by media and tech bloggers.

Priv got way better reviews because many tech bloggers has suggested BlackBerry to go Android before and they can't eat their own words and saying bad things about their own idea.... that only increased the volume of positive reviews, not saying it's overwhelmingly positive.
