Even though I do not like the Blackberry Venice, the name Venice was beautiful, so it's such a shame that they couldn't keep that as the final name.

because this is almost certainly BlackBerry's last chance to make a successful phone. If this one doesn't sell, I can't see Chen continuing this line of business.

So I'd like to see BB get all the details right on this one and gives themselves the maximum chance of success. Otherwise BB becomes an enterprise software vendor, no more or less than that.

Given that they are the underdog, given that they are the new entrant in a sea of Android, it's absurd to me that they wouldn't want to be extra careful about making the device as appealing as it can be. Having a laughable name like this is just not helping their probability of success.

You're definitely not talking for the whole CrackBerry community here. And, yes, the Slider is of course a BlackBerry.

would you care if your car was called "a$$hat*" and your street was called "d0uche's avenue"? Name might not be everything, but it's always worth something.

BlackBerry Vanguard - I like that. It easily fits in with the protection angle and it starts with a V, which ties it into the codename of Venice.

PLEASE let the Priv app developers sue BlackBerry so they can't use the name! Hurry BlackBerry, come up with something else!

you mean like "I saw America live in-concert at the Canadian National Exhibition on opening day" (long I sound) or "BlackBerry's name for the new slider has made me lose my will to live" (short I sound?)

Maybe "rhymes with 'five'" or "rhymes with 'fib'" would be better.

I think it's "rhymes with five".
Yup rhymes with fib! You got it!

I can't help it, but this name has really killed my excitement for the phone. All they had to do was come up with a name that wouldn't drive people away and they failed.

On another note, when I was a kid, my parents had a Toyota Previa (quite possibly the ugliest minivan ever). .My friends used to call it The Perv or Pervia. So we have that to look forward to....

Before the Passport name was announced, I thought it was the ugliest phone ever. The name put the design into context and changed my mind. I love this phone.

With the Priv, Blackberry has managed to do the opposite - formerly interested people are now completely turned off. Did the employees who gave approval for this horrible name already receive their layoff notices?
