Then they should have went with Prix, and maybe add the word Grand in front, and tie it in with the F1 sponsorship for advertising. Their is no way this name ends well. It's like Chen thought that he had to make an Android device to shut up these ***** Android evangelists so he'll do everything he can to sabotage this thing, like he did with Bb10, to kill off handsets once and for all but make it look like he tried.

GM might have a problem with that.

Pontiac is no more, nor do I think that they can claim it would confuse consumers being a car vs Phone. Looks like F1 is trying to Trademark it yet again though.

Guys, I figured it out! BlackBerry is going to use this as the marketing slogan:

"The new BlackBerry Priv - it's the sh*t!"

The city codenames should have stuck, they're cool.
Yeah, but when they run out of cool cities we'd have the BlackBerry Dubuque.

According to the dictionary, priv means privacy.

However, in slang terms, adding a y at the end of priv makes "privy."

So BlackBerry is literally ****ting on themselves with that name.

But you mentioned the tie in to racing. And GM still maintains trademarks for defunct brands for merchandising, normal industry practice. If you don't believe me you can do a search on USPTO.

Maybe there is time to call it the Grand Priv. Everyone wants a huge toilet.

    I like Prix. A lot.

Except that apparently the BlackBerry marketing department is full of them.

If I get this and it's called "Priv", I'm going to pronounce it P.R. Four, which is ridiculous but the lesser of three evils.
It makes me want to per-for-ate my eyeballs having seen "Priv" as the official name.

Hope they don't build a lot of inventory of the Priv....because they are going to have to write off a sh*t ton of it!!
    THERE'S the silver lining!

I'll be able to pick up one of these really cheap in BlackBerry's Handset Division Firesale! Remember those really cheap HP Touchpads? I can't wait to pick up my BlackBerry Priv for $200 in January!

And folks thought they couldn't do worse than Leap.
At least the word "Leap" has positive aspects to it. "Priv"? Well, given that Android just wipes "Privacy" out of the "BlackBerry Device" equasion, it's hardly even applicable, and as many MANY others have noted, "Priv" is closer to "Privy" i.e. toilet, than it is to "Privacy" (which again just serves to bring attention to the fact that, as an Android device, the users privacy is compromised, not enhanced.) So sad.

As long as there will be BlackBerry contacts calendar in this new Android version I will get it but it's def a deal breaker if I can't access any BlackBerry features.

sounds like that's it for the device biz if this is true. so go ahead and bank on clutching your bb10s for a while or otherwise find a new OEM

Not sure what to think of the name. The way it's pronounced, it sounds horrible... sounds like perv.

But on paper, it looks cool and would probably look cool on marketing material

    "Priv"
    "PRIV"
