Blackberry loves to give names that have one syllable.

Curve, torch, leap, priv, lol.

But what about the "Classic", "Passport"....? These were great names to go with. Don't get how they botched this... I really hope they do a last minute change and just go with Venice.

and for posterity, my (enhanced) musings from the CrackBerry News posting...

...but running Android undermines the Privacy aspect of the device (the "Priv") so "Priv" really isn't an apt name... but BlackBerry IS putting in extra security features in the device so a much better name is:

The worse part of the name Priv, is the prefix name "BlackBerry." BlackBerry will do a run of about 250,000 units, claims it sold out on Amazon, come out with a silver one a few moths later, then red, and Porshe will make a hideous version and all the fanboys, will buy each version and colour. The biggest problem in a sea of over 2,000 other Android vendors is the name BlackBerry, not Priv...

Is patenting law so stupid as to patent a word in the dictionary?

I understand there would be a issue if it's called BlackBerry Nvidia Shield (which obviously it won't) but how can there be an issue of calling it BlackBerry Shield since it boots up with the image of a android robot with a Shield.

I think the problem would more be that they are essentially a very similar product, and the issue is with copyright laws, not patent laws.

Lest we forget the Nintendo Wii. A name isn't a death sentence, even if everyone thinks it's ridiculous. But BlackBerry isn't doing themselves any favours if they launch something with the name Priv.
