Maybe it's because English isn't my native language, but despite not seeing any greatness in the name at all, I don't think "priv" (call it [preev] or [praiv]) is that bad. Maybe for native English it might sound too close for other less elegant words.

When I first saw the @evleaks tweet, I thought that was exactly what had happened. That's when you know you've got a terrible name on your hands.

Do they do absolutely zero market testing?
Nah, they've always had an amazing knack of finding the most out-to-lunch focus groups.

How do you even say the word 'Priv'?

I mean, I can just see it know: "yo' have you seen the new BlackBerry... uhh.. 'Preev' or 'Prhayve' or whatever it's called?"

Not really I actually like "Venice" better than any other name, maybe because I have a soft spot for the Venice city itself.

Like i said, the name isn't cool at all, but I still think its not as bad as the rumoured "Avenger" that to me sounds like it's trying too hard.

I'm going to be the only person in this thread who likes it. I just wanted to know, because we know everything else except what the name was and when it'll be released. I, too, and curious as to how it's announced.

    But be honest.

They got you talking about it, and bad publicity is better than no publicity at all. The fact that it's going to be at the **** end of every joke is good for BlackBerry, I'm still buying it regardless of the name. I'd still rather have a BlackBerry than a BitCoin.

    lol @ I can't say b.u.t.t.

The device has been designed and priced for the PRIVileged, I suppose.
Then they should have gone with "BlackBerry Privilege". Heck, that might actually be a great name for a tech device.

The fact that Priv- can mean so many, mostly negative, things makes me wonder how suggestions like this even get past the first meeting at BBHQ.

"Privy member "organ of sex" is from late 13c. n. "toilet," c.1200, from Old French priv, privee "latrine," literally "private place," from noun use of adjective priv (see privy (adj.)). "

Wow, just wow. Why do they always have to make things so difficult for themselves!? Self-inflicted wound. Again.

Hopefully this isn't true. Why can't they just call it the Venice?
This stems from lack of consumer marketing knowledge. I doubt they've ever used or even heard of a Market Research Panel.
