Just another way designed to suck in customers. I get these from Verizon every time I look at their phones online.
At least they threw you a bone for the free shipping, or do they give that to everybody?

They did the same to me with the Passport launch. Also got a free code, I used it to order the hardshell I forgot. And guess what I forgot to order a hardshell again with the priv. So thank you for reminding me, I will do the same and order using the code. :-

Not really an invasion of privacy. You gave them the email address to sign up for the account, so they are allowed to use it to contact you.

Bet you didn't read the privacy policy when you clicked that create account button.

I know its completely legal and so on, and it doesnt bother me a bit. However to me it just comes off as hypocritical of the company that has made such a big deal of keeping what you do online/on your phone to yourself.

I remember the early days of online shopping. Barnes and Noble would send me nice bookmarks as a way of saying thank you. Levi's would send little knicknacks with their name on them. Now you're lucky to get an email. Lol.

Honestly, if I had gotten that email I'd probably have ordered the Priv as well. I'm still telling myself I should wait since I don't need a new phone right now.

I don't know. I shop online a lot and haven't really seen this. Maybe it is because when I shop I usually check out. I just haven't even tried to order the PRIV yet because of the price

If all on-line stores do this, why don't people simply deliberately do what the OP did inadvertently, wait for the "shipping email" and avoid shipping charges? lol

Some companies will email you just a reminder that you left a product in your cart. Some will give you a free delivery deal, some won't.

Shipping is free genius, and online retailers do this type of thing all the time.
