"BlackBerry is announcing two new additions to its handheld device roadmap"

Taken from their press release: BlackBerry announces Q2 Fiscal 2016 results | CrackBerry.com

Two new additions? Ok, one is the Android slider... what was the second addition?

When they say "While the new device will provide a choice in OS to new and existing customers" it can just mean you have a choice to buy an older phone with BB10 or get the slider with Android, but surely the following is not an addition to their roadmap: "Second, the company will continue to develop and enhance the BlackBerry 10 operating system"

    10.3.3, not another device.

But that cannot be considered an addition "to its handheld device roadmap", surely?

Sure it can. It's part of what they are planning for their handheld devices.

That is just dumb. (Of BlackBerry, not your comment.)

He said there's NO BB10 devices planned for 2015. So if anything, get the slider.

I'll hope best. A new device based on Passport -- with substantial changes. New screen form factor. New keyboard layout. New OS.

For you BlackBerry veterans out there, when they announce devices at the press, do they go by Fiscal year or Calendar year?

Because if it's Fiscal, they can launch the Priv in February 2016 and still be "this year".

Oops. I misread it. They stated: "First, Priv. Second, BB10." So, actually there's only one device in the roadmap.

PR says late in calendar year... So Definitely 2015

You're just a bundle of joy, aren't you? They have claimed they are committed to BB10, and I believe them. (Secured Android + BES12 for BYOD and COPE, BB10 for ultra-secure certified COBO.)

Not to the Loyalists who think:

They said they won't be releasing a new BB10 phone this year. Only 3 months left in this year, so new BB10 phone for next year is confirmed!!11

This! ^^ Exactly what I thought. Passport Silver Edition running Andoird. Just like the leaked video from last month showing it running Lollipop.

What else are they going to say, when they are going to release an android powered device? We are ditching BB10 and this is our last chance in the handset business?

With the shift to be focused on software, they don't "need" bb10 if they can secure android like they say they can. "Committed" doesn't mean much from them as time and time again they've proven otherwise.

His comments basically state that 10.3.3 is a maintenance release to address security and BES enhancements, and maybe some Good integration. It is not a commitment to BB10 beyond not EOL'ing it right now. That will come after they see the results from this Android experiment. There will be no new BB10 hardware IMHO. I have no more time for a company with such little commitment to their products. Glad I will be moving on later today. I'll keep the Z30 to see what 10.3.3 brings, but it will be out of interest and not necessity.

This was my thought exactly when I was reading the press release.

O sweet, two new additions!!! For a second I was super excited about hearing of a device that hadn't got leaked out yet!

But sure enough, it was just an OS update...that seems like a pretty weak addition. Correction, that isn't an addition at all. That should just be standard news!

Who knows...maybe it will be the last update!!.!?!?!?
