From this morning on it seems my Priv got extra sensitive.

When calling the screen has blacked out at inconvenient times before, like when wanting to activate speaker or just end a call. Now it blacks out while pointing at it from a 20 cm (thats around 8 inch non metric users) distance already making it impossible to do any off above mentioned. Unusable as a phone it has become.

I did do the October updates on Saturday. Any relation maybe or another tip to reduce proximity sensor sensitivity?

Note off topic. A real button at least would prevent the awkward "end call" not ending situation dear Mercury developers. The guy in cheap jeans and a black roll neck who decided buttons are not cool is dead so maybe focus could go back to sheer usability. Remember looking cool is most required for "user experience" and other marketing bla bla. The phone working and therefor being usable eh well, is required to let me spend another 600 euro when I need a new phone.

You can run BB Virtual Expert. It has a sensor proximity test to see if your is functioning correctly. You might want to contact BB

    Blackberry Support 1-866-533-8067
    0800-141-3330 (UK)

    Reboot:

From BB blog: How to reset PRIV by BlackBerry | Inside BlackBerry Help Blog

    Three restart/reboot methods

The first method, which should be used 99.9% of the time when you want to reboot your device, is using the Reboot option that appears after pressing the Power key.

Press and hold the Power key for 3 seconds
Select Reboot from the menu that is presented

The second reset method should be used if pressing the Power key does not produce the menu with Power Off and Restart. For example, if an app or game you are using won’t close, use this option to restart your device.

Press and hold the Power key for 12 seconds

Third method: Should your device fail to respond, the final reset method is to press and hold the Power key for 32 seconds which is equivalent to removing the battery. This should result in your device booting up successfully.

If it fails to start, however, verify you are not pressing any other keys such as Volume Up, Mute, or Volume Down while performing any of the reset methods listed above. If you use a case for your device you may want to remove it as it might be pressing a button inadvertently.

And just for an extra measure, if needed:

    Safe Mode:

The next step is placing your device into safe mode.

When used, Safe Mode will disable any third party app

    Thanks.

All resets done before. Didn't know the expert. Got it now. It passed the test. Let's see whether the issue comes back.

I had this issue. Took compressed air and sprayed the earpiece and it worked again. Dust was messing up the proximity sensor in the ear piece.

There is no sensor in the earpiece it's just the sensor on the left of it

I literally had the same issue these past few days. It won't even let me hang up after calls. The screen keeps going black and back on randomly rendering the phone useless during calls. HOWEVER, I did find a fix. It might be different from yours but what what I did is that I blew air inside the earpiece the aiming the air to the left where the proximity sensor is located.I blew the air with my mouth. Try it and also remember to blow the air as strong as you can so it's effective and try to not blow your saliva inside lol

I get the solution(s) -- and thank you for same.

However, is this an issue, a bug, that BB needs to address? I've heard this happening a lot. Any insight on this?

    Thank you.

The fix is easy: phone buttons.

Plus let the convenience key active/deactivate speaker mode.

    Sorry couldn't resist

Will try the "blow air" solution. Thanks for all suggestions so far.

I doubt it's a bug, if it's dust blocking the sensor for most folks. If more people have had to do resets to fix it, then I'd wonder. Haven't had the issue.
