Until a bunch of them start complaining about updates. The vast majority don't know, understand or care anything about the details. The word getting around will be "The Priv has trouble with updates". The bad reputation will vastly outweigh any positive value.

The fact that the trouble is caused by people buying the wrong phone, and/or shady vendors will never see the mainstream light of day.

IMHO BlackBerry brought a lot of this on it's self by using the same model # for what are different devices. The hardware may be identical, but the finished product is far from being the same.

On Amazon if they say new it has to be new, if it is not Amazon always stands behind the product.

Not in my experience. Amazon is not a good place to purchase cell phones or other electronics. I can't tell you of the headaches I've experienced with Amazon and their stock of BlackBerry devices. I've received multiple refurbished and used items from Amazon by Amazon.

BHPhoto + NewEgg has been a lot safer and more satisfactory/better customer service.

Amazon seems to do well, until the resellers in the 'fulfilled by Amazon' category get involved. At that point, it's almost as if ALL of product X gets put on the same shelf as Amazons stock, and the order picker just grabs one at random.

They clearly have two listings for AT&T and Unlocked, but the third party sellers all put the AT&T one under there, messing up the ASIN.
