I've noticed friends with iPhone don't always get my BBM messages because BBM shuts down when they close the app. I didn't think this happens on Android. But I have a family member who just got a Galaxy S6 and noticed today my BBM messages weren't going through.

Will BBM always be ON like it is on a BlackBerry 10 device or will it close if we shut down the app? Anyone know? And can anyone explain to me if iOS or Android BBM version can be made to stay on even if the app is closed.

BBM works just like the BlackBerry app on my wife's Sony Xperia Compact. Messages arrive within a few seconds even if the app is closed.

BBM on my s4 does not automatically sign back in after an update. You have to manually restart app and sign in. It will remain active until it updates again.

It's always on as long as you keep the bbm connected icon on,

Bbm connected icon can be turned off in the bbm setting menu, so please don't

I was hoping for this as well. My family all connect via BBM and all have BB10 devices. IPhone sucks for notifications on BBM

As I recall, the persistent icon/notification was to ensure that the background process would not be killed off by the OS when memory was needed.

If you turn it off, then the background process will persist, but.. you run the risk of it being killed (depending on your device specs and usage, it may happen often or rarely).

BBM on Android is actually pretty good. The only issue I've noticed on Android is when the app auto updates. It will only reconnect when the user manually reopens the app.

On iOS however, it's almost useless. Frankly I don't even attempt to use it when I know someone has an iPhone.

I used it on an iPhone for several months without any issues at all, so your mileage may vary.

I have to agree, most Android contacts response actively. IPhone contacts almost unanimously never get the message instantly.

Either it's a phone thing or a trend in personality type and phone selection..

I installed BBM on my son's iPad so I can communicate with him from work. Goes through right away.

Iphones snooze the app when their phones are dormant (like many other iOs apps this is an OS shortfall).
Only when the phone is woken up does it receive the message and the sender sees the "D".

Whatever the cause, it has caused the iPhone contracts to dismiss the app as junk and delete.
