Is it because of some agreement to get the Google play store?

Logically it makes sense that it can be done (whether it should or not is up for debate) , but I also don't know how it would work... strictly speaking from an end user perspective.

Why would you want to bother?

The great expense of developing this Runtime, for the sake of a handful of native apps in BBW that we would be losing by moving to Android, doesn't seem to be warranted to me.

Oh, I agree with you! I don't think it makes sense fiscally UNLESS they really planned on keeping BB10 around for enterprise with its own ecosystem. (which I don't think is the case)

I was just curious to see if it was something that was technically possible.

Maybe you should ask yourself, what do you actually want to use from BB10 that does not already have an Android alternative, to the point you need the BB10 runtime?

If anything a lot of the apps were Android apps to start with that hasn't been updated for ages.

Not to mention the UI paradigm between Android and BB10 is a bit different, I can tell when I try to use the trackpad in Android apps. Some Android-based apps are actually awkward to use in BB10, and would likewise be awkward in reverse.
