You know what's my beef with the majority of "reviewer that matters"? They all compare specs and android version and never ever go deep into any device. I don't blame them since the majority offers little to nothing. CB will highlight what makes the Priv a blackberry while shedding light, I hope , on all the unique customization to none blackberry fans. Let's hope

The fact that they've shown the device in public, released a video and other marketing for it, and are allowing pre-orders should lift the embargo even if the signed agreement has a later date.

Yeah, seems a bit unfriendly to the bloggers/reviewers that make their living off traffic from these things. Not exactly how I imagine you would get on their good side.

Two reviews. Priv from a BlackBerry perspective and Priv from an Android perspective.

People who are familiar with Android would like to know what's different, but I (and probably people like me) really want to know what's the same. I've dabbled with Android but I've had my experiences colored by subpar hardware and "interesting" manufacturer skins.

Again, that's only something that those of us in the know would know, and the rest of us... well, we'd never know.

I agree that it's unfair to the bloggers and I honestly don't know what BlackBerry is thinking with this strategy but, hey, I'll probably never know, you know?

I'm gonna do an unboxing and then a week testing out all the features and post my views on it.

I look forward to it. You'll beat me by a couple of days at least because, quite ironically, I'm in Venice until the 8th. As soon as I can, I'm going to grab the Priv.

I don't need a new phone right now. I like my z30, but I would like to see Priv in action. I've owned 3-4 androids before I ever touched a BlackBerry. I like my BlackBerry better but I also know bb10 days are numbered. I'm working on 2 years with my z30 and had a z10 before that. I don't just run out and buy the newest phone. Phones are expensive and I want at LEAST 2 years out of one. Priv having things from bb10 that I like will get me off the fence and MIGHT get me to buy one sooner. That and of course vzw needs to carry it.

    Who is blaize?

Bla1ze. He's the stoner dude who took over from CrackBerry Kevin. He doesn't look the part, but he's actually very good at what he does. The only thing I fault him with is that he hasn't reported the vast bulk of the talent that has left BlackBerry during Chen's time. I think a lot of people around here would be very unhappy with Chen if Bla1ze reported what had really happened to BlackBerry under Chen and how the future was lost. But, CB has also always been an exercise in a balance between enthusiast blogging and journalism. Maybe, he's getting that balance right. I just think there's a time for enthusiasts to be angry and he may have helped surpress some of that anger by covering up the facts and, in doing so, really hurt the company we love and the fan base of CB.

All I know is that sites all over the Web that aren't CrackBerry scooped CrackBerry on something that CrackBerry used to scoop everybody else on: BlackBerry handset info.

Yeah, seems a bit unfriendly to the bloggers/reviewers that make their living off traffic from these things. Not exactly how I imagine you would get on their good side.
If anything, BlackBerry embargoing CrackBerry, THE site likely to give their product a fair review in consideration of the software being incomplete etc., is yet another marketing misfire.

BlackBerry should have nicely asked CrackBerry to withhold any lengthy or in-depth review until at least, say, two other unauthorized 'reviews' (by those who got hands on time with a device without legitimate access, like the Baka video) released on the net.

All that's out ther now is scattershot info and features, where CrackBerry could have published a thorough and fair review (assuming they've been giving feedback to BlackBerry that BlackBerry would be wise to act on before release).

The reason BlackBerry would not want leaks and for fan sites doing early reviews? So as not to steal BB's "launch event thunder". But WHAT thunder? THERE WAS NO THUNDER.

It gives me the impression that BlackBerry is conducting their enthusiast outreach as though they have control over the leaks, which they obviously don't. Then one bad marketing / PR decision after another with the BNN video, the horrible shower curtain tweet... it's pitiable.
