“The Google Play store is a relatively open environment,” said Jan Gahura, Avast. “Even after Google introduced its Bouncer (an automatic analysis tool to approve each application which is submitted to the Google Play Store) malicious applications still exist. Here at Avast we know how hard is to develop such a tool and how easy is to fool it from a bad guy’s perspective.”

    P.S.
For those who said that if you only download apps from PlayStore, you are safe. Well, think again.

Here is ESET blocking a donwnloaded app, DOWNLOADED, not installed. As you all can see, ESET...CAN prevent malicous apps before you install them.

Avast Antivirus is one of the most popular antimalware products around. I use ESET, I always did.

    Wikipedia:
Avast Software /əˈvɑːst, -æst/ is a Czech security software company headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic, that develops antivirus software and internet security services.

    Sarcasm is not necessarily ironic.

It's vastly safer than using any other store. MALWARE WATCHDOG: HERE’S WHAT GOOGLE DOES TO KEEP ANDROID DEVICES UNINFECTED | Digital Trends ^^^ same site

They have the most downloads and the smallest malware percentage as opposed to other stores that have far less apps as well as downloads but a higher malware inclusion. And as long as you don't download apps that nobody else is either it's a safe bet you're not going to be installing malware. Aforementioned bad guys can't supplant an existing app that has millions of downloads plus good developer reputation and ratings.

Vastly safer is not 100% safe, but I see your point of view.
In the end, it's a matter of choice.

This looks like the same thread by the same OP, where the question was asked & answered before it went off the rails. http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...virus-1096575/

No need to repeat that, thanks.
