Blackberry update the priv to Android 7 in the future ? The TLC phones get the update😨😨
The most accurate official answer right now is:
"...just get the KEYone..."
so it looks unlikely, and if they haven't decided yet then it's already too late to bother.
General consensus I have seen here is they are not going to update any OS to newer versions..
some are watching and expect KEYONE to be stuck on android 7. Dtek and Priv stuck on android 6..
if that's the case, no more BlackBerry for me.. Specs are totally capable to support their updates.. So if they gonna "force" us to upgrade hardware then I'll be going to iPhone or maybe LG
Most companies have already released a list of their devices receiving the OS update. BlackBerry has chosen the path of letting their silence giving your their answer. Odds are against any devices released prior to the KEYᵒⁿᵉ getting any sort of OS update going forward. With that being said, and given BlackBerry's track record, it might be unlikely the KEYᵒⁿᵉ gets bumped to O
I do think this is a negative for BBMO going forward. As much as I like BlackDroid, this lack of OS updating philosophy goes against the flow of what the competition does.
I could swear they were touting monthly updates while others are idle.
So it seems others just do one big update with new android version and ignore the vulnerabilities in the meantime?

BlackBerry is great about monthly security updates. It looks they are not so great when it comes to extending the life of a device by upgrading the OS.
No Android 7, sorry mate. If you feel like having a device for more than 1 year, don't go blackberry
But it should be reiterated that the priv with 6.0 will provide more than enough for the average consumer for many more months ahead.
If you need the latest, trendiest and greatest then just budget for a new phone every 11 months.
Want and need is a delicate balance these days with easy credit.

True, want and need gets blurred easily in our Varuca Salt world. I listened to the podcast from CBK, and the answer to the Nougat question was filled with equivocation. It really wasn't answered. Personally I think in a few months they will release it after the KEYone sales have had a few months.
I agree.. My Priv still runs great so I will put up with it for now..
It's just disappointing that I want to hold on to my Priv as long as I can, but know that I can't get new features google adds in 7, 8, 9 etc. when the phones capable
That's what's making me reconsider going back to iPhone myself
With Apple you are pretty much assured the next iteration of iOS for at least five years. With that horrid home button disappearing and dark mode being touted all that's left is that trash they call a vkb.
Apple could really create a hub like function on their phones and I wouldn't be surprised if we see one in the near future.
100% agree
Besides being current with the latest app features, is there another strong reason why we want Nougat on Priv? Is it because it will be easier on the processor causing reduced/no heating and extend battery life?
More efficient
Smoother apps
More Android for Work policies

But they like to disable features of new OS versions which they think won't work satisfactory for older devices. (Even if they would work fine.) So it might be that you get the "new" version but all that changes is the version number. Nothing else.
you can install 3rd party keyboard for some time on iOS
Source of that? That's BS...
See here for example. And people enabled most of these features on their older jailbroken devices and proved that they mostly worked fine.
i think the PRIV will be my last BlackBerry. security is great, but OS update (N/O) nowhere to be found, no timeline. nothing.
You had to go all the way back to iOS 7 for that list?
Try harder.
That was merely the first result I found to prove my point. Have some more:
Example for iOS 8.
Example for iOS 9.
Example for iOS 10.
Example for the unreleased iOS 11.
Take a look at those lists and note that, as time goes on, they're increasingly hardware-dependent. For example, on iOS 10, burst mode and slow motion video, Touch ID (and, by extension, Apple Pay), pedometer, Metal and 3D Touch are all features of newer hardware, and not possible to implement on older hardware. Raise to wake most likely has something to do with the motion coprocessor, so that's also hardware based. That leaves voicemail transcription, Night Shift, and Safari content blockers, which is a pretty short list.
Burst
and slow-motion recording can both be enabled on older devices. Slow motion uses 60fps for older models instead of the 120fps of newer ones, though. But that's still better than not having this feature at all.
Can be emulated on older devices. Also in this link: Live photos.
This has been done by apps on Android without any special hardware for ages. Yes, it uses some battery power, but not that much as long as the display stays off. So it makes you wonder why Apple didn't allow native step counting in previous models as they all have the sensors already.
Also, in previous iOS updates, some omissions were not explainable with slow or specialised hardware - such as the Public Transport guidance for Maps or the AirDrop feature.
And my point was that Apple does disable features for older devices which would work. Nothing more.
Blackberry as a company is a classic bad mother of their products.
She left BB Os 10 and will definitely not upgrade priv to Nougat.
It would be bad for Keyone.
It could be that BB Priv would become a cult phone and stop selling Chinese TLC.
John S. Chen shows that it is going in a completely different direction. The BB Priv will be my last BB phone.
