It's very cheap in the US. On Europe it's 795 Euro = 898 USD

499? Really?? You may be delusional. Just because they need to sell to stay afloat that does not mean they need to give them away with no profit. I was hoping not to go over US650/CAD750

I was hoping for a $499 - $599 US price. I probably will give in, but there might be a little whimpering.
The price of PRIV cannot be set lower than that of Passport Silver Edition, I suppose.

This was probably them testing the waters.

"Leak" a page with high prices to gauge the interest, drop it a little bit at release and then people won't think they are spending too much. People think o well $800 isn't as bad as $949!

In all reality, they need to slash the price!

In my opinion this phone is designed to gather the interest of current Android users. They want to take people away from their Samsung brick phones, and bring them back to a BlackBerry.

That's not going to work when you are charging a premium price. Samsung,HTC, LG can charge those prices for their flagships because they already have that reputation and image. BlackBerry is a new comer to this game, gotta charge lower to interest people.

I sure as hell won't be paying over a grand for an Android device, even if it is a BlackBerry!

Please note that GBP 579.99 is inclusive of VAT (20%) imposed in the U.K.

GBP 483.33 (roughly equivalent to USD 750) is the price NET of such VAT, which is comparable to the price quoted in the U.S.

Yeah $720 was what many had converted it over too.... some where hoping BlackBerry would go $699, other figured they'd do the $749 route.

If it's too high, wait till Black Friday and see if they discount it or at least bundle it with some free stuff.

Thats absurd pricing.. in india passport was launched at 50k INR when in usa canada it was around 39K(if converted to currency, 600 USD,if I am not wrong about launch price.) but if in usa its at par with iphone 6s plus pricing than its gonna be around 72K rupees.. thats truly absurd pricing.. you can laptops for that price. Even at 50k passport didnt sell really well here and with 72k pricing..omg.. not a single android is priced that high..I doubt it will sell at that price.

Iphone 6s is 62K and 6s plus is for 72 k both 16 gb editions.. apple macbook air is cheaper lol..

BlackBerry continues to make the same mistake when pricing their new phones... Why!?

And they wonder why they don't sell in high numbers (as at that price, we can be pretty much certain they wont...). $950 CDN is just crazy... $750-$800 max is what it should and needs to be (and probably around $600-$650 USD).

Hopefully the person I got my Passport SE from through the EPP is still available and the price is a lot cheaper. Otherwise it will be a long time before I get one no matter how much I want one.
Chen wants to get out of the hardware market. If they don't sell because they refuse to price them right, knowing that they have been over priced in the past, then they can say they tried their best to make them sell. Getting out of the hardware business without doing it verbally outright.

    Where?

You buy a BlackBerry from an authorized seller in your market and that seller will provide the warranty "service" for you.

BlackBerry does not do direct to consumer warranty work (except for the PlayBook) as they don't do direct sales - even though it appears that shopblackberry is a direct to consumer sales channel.... it isn't.

Agree. I was going to pre-order one, but not at this price. This is blackberry's first android and for that price, I'm not going to test it for them. Best to wait and see what the reviews are after people have been using the device for a while out in the real world (not just quick hands on videos where people play around). I don't care about the money, but I don't want to throw it away on something I end up hating.

Once the real reviews come out, I can look at what users are saying and how much applies to me. For example, if the only complaint is a poor functioning front facing camera, I don't care because I'm not a self-obsessed tween. If calls cut out or wifi connections suck, well...that's a problem. I'll only know after a bunch of people buy it and start addressing real issues.

Or, they put it up just long enough to get people on forums like this one talking so they could gauge reaction. If they did so, it's a brilliant plan and it worked. We'll never know, even if the price changes.
I wish I was as patient as you haha.

    This again.

This is a new phone and early adopters get hosed. We always do. I paid full price for the PlayBook.

If you don't want to spend the cash now, wait a few months and the price will come down. That is the way the cell phone market works.
