Yes, and no. I literally just read about this just now and went to check Weibo. That guy has a store in Beijing and Shenzhen, I'm checking with them to see if I can do it at the Shenzhen location, since I'm travelling to Hong Kong in a few months.

I might do the graphene heatsink mod first.
@ToniCipriani - does the weibo contact speak English or is chinese the only option?

Thanks for the info. Please let us remaining Priv users know of your experiences if you go through with it.

    Chinese only, I would assume.

Though, if I'm going through it, it won't be till next year when I'm travelling...

Trying to find more info about it via WeChat.

The 1st stage of the hardware root of trust is actually built into the Qualcomm SoC. The precise implementation would have to handoff perfectly. You would probably need a perfect pin for pin identical SoC - like the 625/626. But truly, this is wild explanation as the exact process is proprietary.
@conite - would you say on your best guess that assuming it's actually possible to upgrade to a 625/626 SoC, increase the ram & emmc you would then be able to achieve root?

Also if we are theoretically able to get root, what are you thoughts on being able to unlock the bootloader so we can load a custom rom?

I would love to run Lineage rom on my Priv!

No. I'm saying if you HAD a 625, you might be able to go to a 626. But again, that's just a lunatic guess.

    OIC...

Now wondering if there is a SoC that could work even if it's just another 808 without the embedded security

I've heard this happen before with the Nexus 5X (https://www.xda-developers.com/nexus...om-2gb-to-4gb/), but I guess "hardware root of trust" doesn't cover swapping the SoC.

think it differently I mean why BB could not do those thinks in different versions :
    32GB , 3GB Or 4Gigs
    64GB , 4GB better cam(the Dtek 's 60 one 21mp and better chipset not heating up)
you are a manufacturer producing this phone why you cannot do it as the production cost are already going on....

Definitely agree. I was thinking something to possibly try on my next trip to Hong Kong if I can find the time to take a train up to Shengzen

I'd beleive this. I have watched a few videos where people upgrade thier iPhone 7 to get the 3.5mm jack before and even one where a guys builds an iPhone from scratch using nothing but aftermarket chinese parts, in china.

Is this something we can have someone in a phone repair shop (in Stateside) do for us, and we just supply the RAM chip?

wow please let us know if other mods can be done. I'm going to HK in December and would love to get this done to my PRIV too.

Maybe this mod is all we need to get the priv to work the way it was supposed to.

S6 was launched at $649 with 3GB of Ram. The LG G4 was also 3GB (at $599). Seemed normal at the time for a flagship.

They cut a very thin piece of aluminum foil then use graphene paste to stick it to the existing shield to make a bigger heatsink, thus less throttling.

Instructions all in Chinese though. Guy doing the memory mod would throw this mod in for free.

It's like $50. If paying that money extends the life by another year or two such that I don't have to give BlackBerry anymore money, I think it's worth it.

But but, I "need" that latest and the greatest device otherwise my work won't get done!?

If I had a Priv, I would have done this, without a second thought. The battery life would also greatly improve, to the way, it should have been from the beginning.

Maybe BlackBerry Motion should redo the Priv (change name to Torch) and the Passport but not with a 1:1 screen and running Android .

You have to wonder if these folks could update a 9900 with a chip(s) that could run Android. That would be interesting.
