The 4GB RAM upgrade looks like a great way to extend the life of a Priv, but my Priv is my work phone so I can't have it shipped off anywhere to have it done. I am curious about the thermal mod that comes with this upgrade though. Can it be done without swapping out the RAM? And if so, what part(s) are needed?
Seems like you happy with 4GB of RAM but I think you just lost all you warranty options with that

If done here in the states, the mod will be much more expensive. And did the person who had the mod done that failed, did he ever get it running again?
I doubt this too. I asked to do this with my classic for ram or processor n was shot down immediately
You can't change the SOC, I don't think the S4 supports more than 2 GB of RAM anyway.
If it was possible, I'd get my Priv's 808 swapped out for a 6xx series SoC for even better battery life
If BlackBerry just pushed Nougat, the Priv would run a 1000 times better.
I wouldn't be so sure, Nougat ruined the S7's battery life for example
I would disagree. I have a friend who has an S7 and he loves the battery life Nougat gives him. So much better than he had on the Priv and soon he will get Oreo.
I think the optimizations of Nougat would make a significant battery life improvement.
Since more people asked, let's say symptoms are similar to some old LG Nexus, but not as serious as LG G4s. The same issue has been reported over on XDA on other phones. I have not lost any data at the moment aside from a few WhatsApp messages thanks to their stupid backup design where you can't merge backups.
Again I don't want to pin it directly to the mod, so I won't comment until I get a final root cause, after it's repaired.

...and my 4GB Priv's back in business. Not sure what the root cause is but it was covered under the mod's warranty. Now just another 2 months worth of Play Store updates and (strangely) an OTA update away for me to transfer stuff back.

Please give us a detailed performance review. I would live to see TCL get the info for a future Priv. I know it isn't likely, but hope does spring eternal.
Performance-wise nothing has changed since what I posted back in December in this thread, it was only about 2 weeks after that I stopped using it because of the radio issues. He MAY have done something different with the heatsink, the massive 57+ Play store updates and OTA didn't seem to have triggered a cooldown warning like it first did with the 98 when it was first modded.
I finally got my PRIV modded the other day while in China. Really was amazing. Came in and thirty minutes later the upgrade was complete. Won't have time to really test it for a couple weeks or so but I'll post a review and thoughts when I can.
which more mods offers that guy in China for the Priv?

I know he does storage upgrades for iPads, he was showing an iPad Mini upgraded from 16GB to 128GB.
Priv only has the memory and heatsink upgrade. But quite frankly that's all I need since storage is expandable.
