When I tried to activate my playbook the device says "Retry Activation your tablet could not be activated because of error 404"

Oh and it says that it is running PlayBook OS 2.1.0.1917

I'm having the exact same issue. I was given a playbook from a friend and did the security wipe and now can't activate it. Any changes on your end ?

Reinstalled my PlayBook today and the same error appeared, could not activate because of error 404. After rebooting, and running the PlayBook_2.1.0.1917 update, it worked, however.

I have the same issue. I did the security wipe and now can't activate it because I'm getting the Error 404 and can't do the software update. I don't understand how to download new software when the only option is shutdown or retry i tried both still stuck on error 404 screen.

If you encounter the 404 error, try waiting a few minutes before you hit "retry". I had same issue over and over until i waited to retry the update. If i were to guess i'd guess that the wireless just didnt load as fast as the OS did. Hope it helps!

tldr Wait a few minutes before pressing " retry".

Waiting a few minutes (I think I got distracted and left it alone for five) and then it worked. Thanks

I'm getting the same error on a Playbook I just wiped. I tried the link for Thurask's Archive above but it's not valid. Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain the file and recover this? Thanks!

    Does this solution still work?
Because I have a PlayBook here and already tried to activate it many different times. Also tried to use with Autoloader, but it wouldn't activate either.
Is perhaps, because the PlayBook Activation Servers are down already?

Yep. No more working solution. My Playbook is also dead after the security wipe and cannot be activated any more. Seams they forced us to through out these devices...

Same here. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to use an autoloader or whatever that Mega link above is for. Too bad that it's now garbage.

This leaves a bad taste with Blackberry. I don't expect infinite support, but they could have made it possible for most remaining Playbooks (on the latest OS) to keep going. What does it cost to keep an activation server running?

More than any goodwill revenue generated. BlackBerry left the consumer business to quit losing money and deploy resources where better potential returns exist for the company.
