So which one is it  Later this fall or end of the year? I guess since fall's almost over..end of the year then?
*Warning* Rant begins here. Venting over a long wait for V2.0, Blackberry 9900, Skype and Netflix for Blackberry, etc....
Does anybody else see a major problem at RIM? There is a cultural problem here - the employees should be "drinking the cool aid" per say. How can they not be passionate about this - when the tablet sales suck and they are literally fighting for their corporate lives. Way to be passionate RIM. Jim and Mike, while once visionaries and founders of a great company, need to realize the resurrection of RIM will require skills that they do not have. They should hand over control, which they seemingly refuse to do.
SOME new leadership is needed - I find it ridiculous that Jim and Mike are both CO-CHAIRS of the board of directors. Awesome - now they can not only stifle the company, but also the board of directors that are supposed to ensure that management is working on behalf of shareholders.
Good job RIM - way to bring in new fresh ideas from the outside world. No wonder their phones are literally 1+ year behind.
Could it be you drank the story, the ice, the glass and the straw ?
Could it be employees do not know much more than us and, for those who know, do have a severe NDA ?
Could it be a fired employee that "strikes back" ? (couldn't avoid this one lol)
Could it be just ... rumors ?
Two Things:
1. By not giving a date, this is the problem. RIM just keeps beating around the bush. Funny I dont know why but I get the feeling that Apple has guys working however long it takes to meet a deadline and RIM hopes to hit a deadline by working 9-5. I am sure that is not the reality but thats how it seems.
2. People are saying that the people that have it will be happy. The people that have it are not the ones that need to be happy. RIM needs to convince those that dont have it (PB) they need to buy it, and with the Kindle Fire coming out and the iPad3 in March or April, RIM is really in trouble for getting NEW customers to the PB.
Those that bought the PB at or near launch are not the issue as there were only 300,000 to 500,000 of those. They need new people and this method will not get new people on board.
Fall ends December 21st. The difference between "fall" and "end of year" is about a week, it's a meaningless distinction. I also doubt they'd release software after the 21st, it's not like anyone will be at RIM working on it through the holidays. If they miss December 21st they'll miss 2011. Fall is also not "almost over", we're only 1/3 of the way into fall.
When's the iPad 3 coming out? I have a feeling OS 2.0's coming out around that time.
Sadly, for me the February OS2 release date is all too believable.
Most people, including the CrackBerry team!, seem to be in agreement that DevCon was a wash. After a series of teasers from RIM beforehand, the world's press assembled to hear... well... erm... nothing really. Oh sorry, I forgot the announcement that hereafter QNX is to be known as BMX or something. As the RIM CEO walked off the podium after saying nothing of substance, jaws certainly dropped, but it wasn't from astonishment at the tech on show!
Myself, I think RIM intended to have more at DevCon (as predicted by their hype) then there was an "oh ****" moment shortly before DevCon that led to RIM pulling most of it... but that's just my opinion.
From memory, two of the BB Beta Zone survey questions are:
1) How important is the Android player to you?
2) How important is BES integration to you?
So, I reckon I can guess what particular development areas are causing RIM the biggest headaches. :)
I recall there was a post a while back reporting that RIM were having "issues" tieing together BES & QNX, so that specific survey question was interesting.
Another survey question was to ask if you would prefer more frequent OS mini-updates instead of a big-bang "everything" release. They didn't name the big-bang release as OS2, but their meaning was clear. :)
I voted for frequent mini-updates, but the fact that RIM even think they have time to drop a few updates between now and the OS2 "thereafter" means that a final OS2 release isn't imminent!
So... February 2012 for OS2? Yeah, that sounds about right though I hate writing it.
If this is true. **** RIM. They keep reaching brand new lows.
summer . . .
fall . . .
winter . . . ?
There is always another season.
"Winter is Coming"

What Calendar does RIM use? :D
The difference being that Apple announced a shipping window for iOS 5 as "fall" and then met that window. RIM has never specified when this software would ship, just that it would be shown to DevCon.
I will be sure to ask someone at the Blackberry Innovation Forum when it arrives in Charlotte on November 15. According to the email about said conference, RIM will show off some of the features of 2.0 Tablet OS. We shall see. :)
BGR has no idea when 2.0 is coming out, so do not bother with that information. Actually, I am not even sure RIM has any idea when 2.0 is coming out. However, I am sure BGR is full of ****e most of the time, and I believe that this is one of those times.
Microsoft has with the xbox 360 every fall it gets a major update, adding new features and services they are able to sell more console. So the idea of keep a product fresh through upgrades isn't so far fetch after all.

I can't remember reading one article from BGR about RIM that was true since I started with BB April. Considering I'm a happy PB owner, I'm just hoping this is more inaccurate news coming from BGR who seems to be paid by some who dislikes RIM.
This is my only consolation regarding PlayBook OS 2.0 and comes as a response to why we are only getting asked about feature requests and priorities now.
It doesn't mean anything about 2.0 - we just want to get some information to validate the 2.0 feature set and show what should be next in line.
Agreed....
You clearly haven't tried the 2.0 beta yet, it's a complete mess. The browser has taken 10 steps back in terms of speed. Pressing the back button reloads pages instead of keeping them in cache. I've experienced a huge number of crashes and slowdowns. Memory has been completely obliterated by about 200mb compared to the last release... Believe me, they've got a LONG way to go before it's ready for the public.
don't really give a rats ****. 2.0, 3.0,5.0 etc, etc. it gets released when it gets freaking released. Wife and I just love are paybooks, incomplete and all. nuff said!!!:p
Not sure of the meaning behind any of your points. RIM has been doing a terrible job, from both a customer loyalty/retention and financial perspective, over the last 2-3 year period. Rumors or not, employee mentality, etc does not apply - that is simply a stated fact.
The delay is yet another example of RIM being way behind in terms of strategic planning. I hope it doesn't cause the end of the Playbook.

BGR looks to be on the money with this one....wow
Are there people who actually "dislike" RIM? I don't think anyone "dislikes" them to the point of trolling the forums. I think people are disenchanted with the direction the firm has gone, partly due to the slow release of products, and just straight-up old, outdated products.
People LIKE blackberry, they just have grown tired of their products. It's understandable when iPhones, Androids, Samsungs etc are coming out with new versions nonstop.
I don't buy this theory that people are maliciously out to tear down RIM. Who wants to waste their time doing that (unless you're shorting the stock?)?
