There are those who discover their errors, admit and move on. Comes hand in hand with integrity. I owned a storm 1 weeks out of its release day, and defended rim and fought to the bitter end against the iphone and droid crowds that laught me right into the ditch of humility... and i admitted the error and that rim screwed up and moved on.
There are other sorts of people, however, that pride has such a strong hold on they never can admit their error even in the face of overwhelming proof. On the titanic they would, to their last breath, say the ship was unsinkable and that iceburg they just slammed into is a non-issue.... until they went under, water filled their lungs and they drowned.
There is no doubt, no real discussion, that rim botched this device's development, and those still defending them as I said only do it now out of sheer over-inflated pride and stubbornness. This last joke of a devcon where the huge OS update we all eagerly awaited wasnt even announced was the deathknell of the company.... not that its headed to bankruptcy but, until it is bought out or the two dumb and dumber ceo's are replaced, will continue to decline and slide into mediocrity. What position have they fallen to? third place? Soon we shall hesr they have been shoved down to fourth.... then fifth... soon companies will top them on the list that they themselves were given up for dead.
And what is sad.... almost horrific... is that we all sit here and watch it day by day, point by point as their stock value plunges, their market position slips... and nearly all due to management error and downright incompetency.

That's not entirely true. John confirmed OS2 is scheduled for February. He never ruled out additional incremental upgrades to the 1.x operating system in the meantime.
I'd love to see some small updates come out right away to address the most glaring deficiencies (keyboard / autocorrect !!) but I'm not holding my breath.
I have a funny feeling that Adobe's announcement and this rumored 2-day secret meeting at RIM could mean even further delays. I am now questioning Adobe's future support for the Air runtime and what dropping Flash support will mean to the Playbook's native browser as well as Flash support baked into the Android player.
For the browser part, I won't be that much scared, since I think they stated that it'll be native BBX in OS2 and not Air like in 1.0.7. I'm not 100% sure since the beta does not clearly claims its DNA, but I'm pretty certain to have heard/read that from a well informed person.
EDIT : plus, flash will still be updated (improved) for the PB so far and PB perfectly supports HTML5 .. so I think this is more a phone issue than a PB one.
I think louzer and Superfly_FR may be talking about two different things here.
"what dropping Flash support will mean to the PlayBook's native browser" would refer, I assume, to the plug-in Flash player.
"not AIR like in 1.0.7" refers, I believe, to the UI of the browser, built around the QNXStageWebView component which is really the browsing engine (where the Flash plug-in runs, though that's not directly related to the AIR part of this).
If RIM moves the UI stuff surrounding the web view from being an AIR app to being a native app (built with Cascades etc) I can't see it being tied to this whole Flash plug-in thing in any fashion. The two are effectively unrelated.
Oh thank you, just delete the If at the beginning of your sentence and you perfectly match my thoughts !
Secret Meeting??? Obviously, I don't hang around the right forums, sites or newspapers!
F2, obviously it wouldn't have been secret if you knew about it! :-)
I think it must have been tied to this Web OS "secret meeting" that nobody (i.e. everybody) heard about from last night.
Maybe there's some truth to the idea RIM will buy Web OS after all. ;-)
Flash in the browser is relevant until every single piece of Flash content is upgraded beyond what the PB OS is capable of. I dont see any reason for RIM to flat out drop support now. Wouldn't' make sense at all. Plus, I'm pretty sure I read, RIM/Android could make their own plugins if they wish for newer Flash versions. I'm not sure how possible that is, however.
Edit: RIM has said they will continue to support and update Flash.
I guess we do have a bit more left of THIS WEEK to get that anticipated UPDATE but I'm not holding my breath. The new bridge last week appears to have not been a precursor to an interim update.

Not really, tomorrow (Friday) is a holiday here in Canada.
Oh well. Can I start a rumor about an update coming out next week or has someone already jumped on that?
Actually in Ontario its only a banking holiday. All other area's are business as usual. But i still don't expect an update.
Oh well. I asked if there were going to be any interem updates before 2.0. Without flinching, he told me that we'd get an update last week. That was last Thursday and that leaves later tonight. Guess I thought Lucy wasn't going to pull the football away this time.
it would be cool if there was a "wager" button configured to just add to or debit from your bank account here in the forums, just uses paypal
like, thanks, WAGER$
i hope they make a torch 9820 just to incorporate those cool new buttons found on the 9850/60 and 9790!
i like posting some stuff that has little or no relation with or reference to the topic at hand, i take pills to minimize it though
Just move on! Life got better meanings than spamming that update button. If anything it's just a minor update. Probably an upgrade to Air number and Flash numbers :P
Here (France) it is also holiday (WW1 end).
I'm 64% sure there will be an update of some kind either in February, or sometime before, or sometime after February, or not. You can put that in the bank!
I've seen some sites say that the last upgrade for Adobe Flash is now available for the Android and the Blackberry Playbook. Adobe cranks it up to 11.1 for last mobile Flash update
I presume any update will be for this.
they've done studies ya know...60% of the time it works every time
i guess it's next week then
come on, the week's not over yet :P
