Not sure if it's my computer...if if playbooks are going offline... :(
Probably an update to your (windows) computer. There is a workaround somewhere here on CB to fix the usb handshake between PlayBook and Windows 10.
Reenable smb 1.0.

Hi. I am still on Windows 7 and can't connect my Playbook to my laptop. I can't see it in either Windows Explorer or Desktop Software. I did try on a Windows 10 machine too using the tips above and was also not successful. Its not the cable as I tried connecting my older Blackberrys (Q10, Classic) using the cables and Desktop Software and it worked on the Desktop software (though not in Explorer. All I want to do is take about 20 videos off the playbook before retiring it. I can't use Wifi sharing as apparently I set a password and I can't figure out what it was (I can view the Playbook using the IP address). I tried yahoo email and send two to myself but the others are too large. I can't sign into google drive or any google app as apparently I need cookies enabled. They are enabled but I assume the protocol is too old. I can't log into Dropbox through the browser - unknown error. I tried the box app and I can't log in either. I seem to be thwarted in every direction I turn. Anyone have any great ideas?
Have you tried downloading the FTP Server app for your Playbook and then moving the files across to a PC via ftp?
Hi Heather,
Have you re-enabled SMB 1.0 as mh mentions above your post? Even on Windows 7 Microsoft is disabling it by default now. Let me know if you need any help with how to do that.
Hi
I did try re-enabling SMB to no avail. So I went back to basics. Even though I had data transfer MicroUSB cable I borrowed an original playbook cable from a friend. With the cable, blackberry desktop manager at least acknowledged the playbook and vice versa but it when I tried to do a media sync it couldn't connect nor did the computer recognize the playbook as a z drive, even with firewalls and antivirus off. I could do a backup but that's encrypted so didn't meet my goal of copying the videos from the playbook. Finally out of options I tried connecting with BlackBerry Link which I had never used before with the Playbook. It worked! No z drive mapping but it 5 minutes it did the media sync and I had my videos! I then exited out of Link and weirdly the playbook then showed up as my z drive which allowed a full clean up of the playbook before giving to a neighbour. I didn't want to wipe it as it had games which probably couldn't be reinstalled. Still wondering why that worked but happy that it did. Thanks for all the people who contributed to this post before I posted and who responded. It was very helpful
