I've been there. All you need to do is shutoff Flash and Javascript. Swipe down from the top of the playbook when in the browser, click on options. Then go to content - shutoff the two options. Rendering speeds will dramatically improve.

    Enjoy!

I forgot about this. My browser has been checkerboarding like a motherfrakker since upgrading. I just turned off javascript but left Flash on, and now it just flies. Thanks for that reminder.

This is a work around and not a fix. While nice it does not solve the issue. RIM needs to speed the browser up some.
Its like working on a 400mhz machine running IE6. In fact I think that was faster.

Checkerboarding a big problem. Suggest flash off, javascript on. Javascript too central to leave off.
    eg this forum dropdown lists.

Flash marginally useful today. Mostly ad blinkenlights. Click to Flash plug-in (clicktoflash.com) on OSX was a revelation. Flash a click away but practically never used.

They need to learn how to handle java script better at least I've found turning it off, which I don't like to do, speeds it up a lot.

RIM must tweak browser performance. Instead of making noise with HTML5 test scores (which are damn "useless") they should focus on js performance, plug-in/extensions support and overall browser stability (it crashes damn too much these days). If they don't do that, then there's no hope anymore
I want to see Chrome or any other browser as a native qnx app, but with current api offerings that's not gonna happen in near future.

We should not have to disable parts of the browser so it works well.

The new browser in BB10 should be way better, I hope.

If you don't want flash just turn it off. I find java script is the real slow down.

Agree and ironic. Proponents tout standards compliant browser and Flash as reasons lack of apps don't matter, but browser sucks.

About BB10 on PB. RIM promises re future products mean nothing to me. Especially with PB. Believe when (if) released. Best case is 2 years of substandard browser (April 2010 - April 2012).

I actually like the way the browser is more desktop like. It can be slow at times and has its issues with java script but this adobe air base seems to be crap.

Since the last beta my browser is faster than ever and there is little checkerboarding to be seen. I did a fresh install of the OS beforehand, though.

I also use Simplebrowser+ in addition to RIM's browser. SB+ does Adblocking almost as good as Chrome or Firefox. And with a custom User Agent I always see the tablet optimized versions of websites by default. Google looks much better this way and typing in the search field is more responsive. Magazine and news pages aren't cobbled with ads any longer. And video sites like youtube use the much better HTML5 player instead of Flash.

If anyone wants to try this, I had the best experiences with the Nexus 7 user agent string, probably because both the Playbook and the Nexus have a 7" screen:

    Code:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.1.1; Nexus 7 Build/JRO03D) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.166 Safari/535.19

I know this is not the answer anyone wants to hear, but my pb was being painfully slow, it was closing windows at random, typing was a pain, it would click click ... llaaaaaaag...clickclickclick , etc. after ton of updates, sideloads, picutres, music, etc. So I made a backup, wiped the device as instructed on CB, and ........
    What a difference!
Now it flies! I can have tons of windows open again, and the keyboard is snappy like a physical one
