To me, the most disappointing thing about the RIM announcement wasn't the time frame but its focus on enterprise customers and enterprise/BES/security uses. I'm NOT an enterprise. I'm an end user who doesn't need the most razzle-dazzle security features. What I DO need is a device that's user friendly and intuitive when it comes to doing the types of things a personal consumer (not a giant corporate user) would naturally want to do. This annoucement seems to tell me that RIM isn't interested in my business or in making the PlayBook a consumer tech gadget, but rather that they've decided to focus on playing only where they're comfortable -- in the business world.
I've said it before in another PB post, but RIM doesn't seem to understand that personal consumers NEED to be part of their target market and they need to keep these people in mind when they design devices and Operating Systems or, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, RIM is destined to become a niche player in the smartphone world by serving businesses and nobody else. Apple realized that RIM was ignoring the casual, personal, consumer smartphone market and they've taken it to the bank. RIM STILL doesn't seem to realize that grandfathers and teenagers and soccer moms all want and BUY smartphones these days, and that RIM's continued focus on "enterprise" only helps confirm for those consumers that RIM doesn't want their business. This OS2.0 announcement certainly has helped confirm that for me, unfortunately.
I sure wish the OS2.0 release would include some type of feature to set the PB to "corporate/security" mode or "personal/casual" mode, but I have no real hope that will happen since they're clearly thinking their best option now is to make the PB bombproof and take the corporate customer world by storm. Good luck to them on doing that.
I like RIM and there products. been using BB Phones for yrs, Personal use! I own a playbook! I just wonder if they really listen to the populas that uses there device's. I like my phone and PB, but i just would like to see that words & actions line up. Telling your product owners they have to keep waiting is not the way to do business. The summer updates should have never been announced until knowing it was coming too fruition. It's like lying to your customer, we have this buy it, you'll get this. It's wearing me down and I just feel like moving on. I like my PB and wan to see the new 2.0 changes. Hanging in there patiently!
Already steered a family member towards the Asus Transformer today. You reap what you sow, RIM.
os 2 well I guess its time to download the beta Im not waiting till febuary
Here's one way to unload that stock of unsold PBs:
Buy 2, get 1 free
Yep, I was just about to post the same link in support of my previous comments that RIM seems to have decided to focus primarily, if not ONLY, on the business market and let the personal consumers wither.
Gotta wonder how many businesses are going to buy PlayBooks now and then put up with a promise of Feb 2012 OS2.0 release . . . and whatever likely delays and postponements follow that. I'm sure this is RIM's attempt to stave off competitors eating into RIM's bread-and-butter corporate and BES business with phones and tablets, but it looks to me like a lurching grasp by RIM to keep the wheels from falling off altogether.
uh oh! Another one that's gonna load a >>BETA<< OS then complain incessantly about it being buggy and lacking functionality. :(
That's what I am worried about. The OS 2 looks realy good. I might take a chance .
I haven't heard anyone having any problems using the OS2 Yet.
Heavens this makes zero sense! where is any kind of logic here eh?
(1) You ask why someone would buy a PB from a seller who hates it. Duh! When I sell it on eBay i am hardly going to say it is junk now am I? Why would i do that? please explain? Do sellers on ebay do that do you think 'Oh, i am selling this PB because it does not have any of the features that i want and it is terrible'. really?
(2) There is a demand for the PB at $300-$350-check on eBay. I am not claiming anything, facts are facts.
(3) Mistreating a PB because I do not like it? Really? So I spent $500 on a paperweight, and I am going to smash it against the wall like a two year old, instead of putting it back in the box and selling it to recover what i can. Really? That's all you have got?
(4) Staples Owners... you have no idea who sold their items or did not. If anyone is unhappy they sell their Playbooks or wait until 2.0 comes out. Only 2 rational choices. Suddenly are saying that somebody would complain about the PB, but in reality they love it, but just do not want to say so? Or are you saying there is a conspiracy going on by people to say they own the PB just to rubbish it...when in reality they do not own and just want to **** off the real owners....What a fantasy world that must be...
Really? that is all you have to defend the Playbook? I can do a better job of defending the Playbook than that and I'm disgusted with delays and lack of apps. Please back up what you say with some solid facts as I have, instead of supposition, accusations and 'what ifs'. i would be more than happy to have that intelligent discussion with you.
The PB hardware is fantastic and the built in apps are impeccable. Just that there are not enough of them and the delays of the promised ones are intolerable. Not worth the $500 paid for it.
