I am honestly surprised that the people that purchased the device initially didn't take the Playbook right back to the store after a weeks worth of use. Mine was going back after the first week. RIM updated the software and improved the usability tremendously. I kept it against my better intuition. Now like the rest of the Playbook "early adopters", I'm living in the little town in Arkansas called Hope.

It's because you are making the classic logic failure in assuming that your expectations and experience is the same for everyone. Just stick to your own opinion, nobody named you the spokesperson for PlayBook owners...

    1. I am a Blackberry owner, Storm II, Torch 9860 and PB 64gb.
    2. I am a Blackberry developer.

Finally and for the last time, my reply to all the morons that keep telling me that I should have researched the playbook before I bought it my definitive answer is:

YOU DID FULLY RESEARCH IT AND STILL BOUGHT ONE! WHY????????
i bought one so I had something new to whine about. we really should have a fourth forum, maybe "enter here to *****, moan and complain" and it would free up these forums for information the rest of us can use.
Certainly you and a few others on here don't expect RIM to be watching Crackberry all day long and working to fulfill our every whim.
Does the PB do everything I want or need, of course not. Does it do enough that i can work away from the office for a few days and not need to fire up my laptop, yes it does.

To conclude, I did some research, bought it, recommended it to 3 others, all happy with it. To call you out on his post, you were going to sell it on ebay, PM was made to you, if its gone now then you ******** is over. If you still have it, send me a PM, Christmas is coming. Maybe I am in the wrong income bracket where if I wasted $500 its not the end of the world, who knows.

By now I think we know RIM does watch this board very closely.

We all represent a very vocal group that can have a significant impact on sales. We have also provide valuable feedback to RIM on their products. If we fail to be critical and fail to demand the very best for our dollar, we do an injustice to RIM and the community of Blackberry users.

    Speak up and be critical.

I fully researched it and bought one 2nd hand for relatively cheap at the time ($250 for it). I also have a 32gb ipod touch which I'm selling off this weekend...I'll be picking up an ipad2 simply to replace the ipod touch...

I do love the pb, and will try to hold onto it for os2.0. I am picking up the ipad2 simply for the apps/games.

I do love the swipe gestures, I gesture on my ipod touch now! haha

Do you share your login with someone? Otherwise, I don't know what "we" you are referring to and making statements on behalf of. Get over it, you're not that significant. Indirectly complaining to a user community is not doing us any favors and is the WORST way to get YOUR message to RIM.

Ok lets try to get some logical perspective on this post.

I was not going to reply on this forum again because the pointlessness of being told over and over again " everything will be ok in February"!

I am not, as stated in several of my posts, anti Blackberry. I think the company could possibly be the single most important producer of high tech solutions in the world if they would just learn one lesson which most of the people so far replying to my thread should also learn.

"WE ARE NOT ALL TECHNICAL SPECIALISTS"

Before you all go off on one again and start slagging me off or doubting my loyalty to Blackberry, lets just remember the good old days. (i.e.sad_old_man)

Nokia made their success based upon a very simple user interface. You can get your hands on the most high tech product in the world but with the aid of user manual and no experience you will be struggling to make sense of it. Its as simple as that!

My example is my Torch 9860!

Lets pretend I am just an end user that wants a posh phone. I buy the latest in vogue mobile and off I go. The only view I have of that high tech gadget is the screen because without that I cant do anything with it! Its the one thing I look at everytime I pull the item out of my pocket. In other words my view of how good that item is. (tech people sit down and bite your lip at that comment because as I said we are not all tech mindex)

Lets take my 9860 screen, what every ipad, ipod. samsung, Blackberry, nokia user sees first off.

Display controls: Background, Brightness., Screen sensitivity, Hover time, Open pop up menu on touch hold, Swipe sensitivity.

    Playbook: Screen brightness.

Now that itself speaks volumes but I can guarantee that someone else will post a reply that will tell me to wait until February for the holy grail to arrive, or to sell it.

Any management consultant worth anything will always advise a company that to "GET IT RIGHT FIRST TIME" and save yourself excessive costs in production, loss of customer loyalty but most importantly 'LOSS OF EMPLOYEE MORAL".

Dont forget people have to produce these Playbooks and can also read! If you were employed in the automotive industry would you prefer to work for BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari or Skoda?

I rest my case and please, if you are going to reply, try to make the reply logical and relevant. Not just about research and the holy grail in February.

On the bright side, I just had my OS updated to 1.0.7.3312 !

On the dark side it never asked me if I wanted it and the only thing I can see thats any different is the appearance of BBC News and BBC iplayer?

    Dont you just love RIM!

    Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

We've heard this plenty times in the form of complaints. They should have gotten right the first time.

But they didn't. Complaining/whining about it isn't going to change anything. Yes they should have had it right the first time. But I just hope they learn from this and get BBX phones right from the get go.

If history is any indicator, we* will be disappointed, yet happy to finally see some additional improvement. Unfortunately, OS 2.0 will be littered with problems. Those "first-adopters" will help RIM identify the problems that need to be resolved quickly...and Crackberry forum will be the sounding board.

    * we in this context indicates those of us who expect RIM to live up to their advertisements and self-imposed milestones.

Stop doing this to me dagerlach. Last nights post was supposed to be my last, but just when I am overcome with the futility of all this, you reply with something intelligent, which lets be perfectly honest is a rarity with playbook owners comments.

In my younger years, Microsoft had things called superusers. Before any new version of windows (i.e. windows 3.1) was released to the end users it was issued as a beta version to all superusers free of charge. The resulting problem reports were acted upon until at least a useable version was released to the end user. Later on in the cost cutting world of bad management, Microsoft began charging superusers to get them to test their product for them. No wonder impartial testing of software became extinct. Now Microsoft invest a set amount on developing new versions of Windows and then sell it to the end user to beta test! When problems arise, visit Microsoft and download the fix! (sound familiar to RIM)

The cost savings of this type of marketing are very very substantial but bear one thing in mind. The customers you have are your best form of free advertising! One satisfied customer will probably generate 5 new customers. However 1 unhappy customer can put off 20 perspective customers. i.e I have no idea how many users are registered on Crackberry, but just think about how many could be registered if the Playbook actually did what RIM says it will do!!!!!

Please do not reply to this post dagerlach, because I would like this to be my last post and you have a bad habit of invoking intelligent thought so dont do it.

For everyone else, I fully expect the same old: It will all be ok in February, should have researched before buying, stop complaining and put up with it, tbink of it this way and it doesnt matter if you are a Senior Manager, Director or Manual labourer. Everyone has someone to answer to! How long do you think you could keep your, Foreman, Supervisor, Manager or Director happy if you had created a serious problem within your role in that company and then tried to tell him over a period of nearly a year that you would correct the problem, but then continue to ignore him and make the same mistake again and again.

    dagerlach: Please read:

    1. Management = End Users
    2. Subordinates = Blackberry

The price of the Blackberry product and its shares have crashed to rock bottom but how can this happen with all you devout BB users out there. Just take this Forum and how many members it has. Based upon the fact that most of you live in the USA or Canada just imagine if congress had as many loyal supporters as this Forum!!!!!!

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than for RIM to get it right again like they did in the early days but I am not holding my breath.

End of post and I now await the usual inane comments that do not help PB users or BB.

I traded in my iPad 2, got myself a playbook and pocketed 100. Personally I really like my Playbook, granted it has its limitations, but so do all os's, it took me all of 5 mins to put a film onto my playbook, would of taken a lot longer on my iPad. The iPad was great but from all of the thousands of apps in the app store I only used a few, email was done from my iPhone, which is now a 9900 lol
