I know it's a long haul but think about it...

BlackBerry 10.2.0.1047 was leaked today for the STL100-1 which is in theory a smaller playbook with its omap processor and 1GB of ram. Also at one point it was said that 10.2 has the resolution of the playbook. So isn't it at least worth a try to get this latest leak a chance to see if it's going to work on the playbook? This is the first 10.2 leak for the stl100-1, so it has never been tried yet.

So which brave risk taking playbook enthusiasts wants to take one for the team and try and get it up and running?

You're right, my fault. But that doesn't mean it won't work, correct?

Because from what I know Ram was never specified in the OS so that BlackBerry can add more or less as they thought was needed. Which is why the switch from the dev alpha with 1gb of ram was so easy.

I still think it's worth a shot, and If I wasn't using my playbook daily than I probably would have given it a shot myself.

Interested to see what will happen. I tried this a while back with some of the bb10 releases and ruined my playbook and have since recovered it, but if you say it can work. I would to see the end result.

10.2.0.1047 only uses 350MB from a cold boot. Another 350MB is cached for a total of 700MB usage.

Don't own a PB but if 10.2 could work well and easily I don't see a reason why BB wouldn't make a port

I still believe that RAM was never an issue for BB10 to run. It was a strategic business decision. They simply don't want to support PB because it never sold well.

That's correct, and with the ability to remove core apps that are not needed (such as phone, sms/mms, and a few other services requiring things like nfc) I think it would be possible to modify the core OS autoloader (Radio files also wouldn't be needed) and install 10.2 onto the playbook.

Uninstalling those files that make a regular OS into a phone would save some of that RAM taken up from boot up (the 350 you mentioned) since that ram is only used up because the way BlackBerry choose to run all the drivers upon start up so they are all up and running by the time the phone turns on.

I would like to see if a modified version of the stl100-1 autoloader would be possible to load onto the playbook.

there is no loader. Someone would have to put something together and try the loader into loading on the PB or get the OS bar file and sideload that possibly

If you brick, then its permanent and cannot be undone. This is due to RIM blacklisting 10.1+ so if you load 10.1 or higher than you cannot revert back to your previous OS.

What is the footprint size without the Android subsystem? With the Playbook wiped and only restoring the core components without Android, the memory footprint was 190MB lower. Can we anticipate that the BB10.2 footprint be about 250MB lower?

I've installed many leaks onto my os but nothing unofficial for the specific device like this...and I still use my playbook daily and I'm not willing to ruin it.

Another major issue. Nothing like 10.0.0.9

10.1+ is so much different than 10 that upgrading would most likely mean that you won't be able to downgrade or debrick and that would obviously render the playbook useless.

If someone has experience doing this stuff and has a playbook they don't mind ruining than it could be highly worth the sacrifice but it could also mean you would ruin your playbook with no way to fix it

I wonder if BB tried that before they sai there was not enough memory?

Yes but there might be a chance that it can be recovered...but it's really for the most advanced users who just happen to have an extra playbook that they are willing to give up.
