    Hi,

I am trying to get any information about getting an Xcelsius dashboard to work on the Playbook. I wondering if I can use the exported AIR file or the .swf file in its native format without any issues on the Playbook. I have done a bit of research and I am seeing references to .bar files? I don't have my Playbook yet but I am just curious about the functionality and if the Xcelsius dashboard will work as is or not. (.swf or .air)

    Thanks

I haven't use xcelsius before, but it is possible to drop swf files on PB and then browse to them via the browser. I have drop several swf files that I created and able to use them without converting etc.

If you post the swf file, I or someone else can test it out.

Edit: I test this website out on PB and it loads up fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

What about something a little more complex, like these:

    http://www.flynetviewer.com/public/p...rds/whatif.swf

    http://www.flynetviewer.com/public/p...esAnalytic.swf

    http://www.flynetviewer.com/public/p...sByRegions.swf

Can you manipulate the data controls and navigate the dashboard the same as you can on the PC?

I gave a quick try of the demo page you posted. By and large most of these seemed to work fine, though some of the controls where a little hard to manipulate because of their size. The pinch and zoom ability of these pages didn't function on the Playbook like normal web pages do, so we couldn't zoom in.

But one thing that comes to mind that might be a plus is the HDMI output of the Playbook. These could be presented on big screen for presentations. Would be pretty cool. If someone were to work with this company to improve the size of some of the controls, I think these would work great for you. As it is they seem to work fine.

Pinch-zoom works ok for me. I agree due to the size of the screen it does make manipulating the controls difficult. If the dashboard was formatted for the PB screen size I'm sure it would be very nice to use.

I too am very interested in running the dashboard on the PB and can't wait until more people start doing this so to build up the knowlegde base.

since these are direct swf file, the scrolling/zoom etc is still problem, within html it will easier to zoom etc.

I just double tap the flash to go full screen. the controls etc are a bit small but still usable. Same goes for text size, some of it looks very small but readable. If you are designing custom just make the flash 1024x600 and adjust the gui a bit for PB. If they are not just for PB then you can still use PB just does not look as good as it could.

Thanks for the input. It looks like the .swf support is decent enough to use as a base for the dashboard. I would definitely look at customising the interface specifically for the Playbook. Flash is pretty forgiving in the sense that being vector based the GUI should stretch out to suit PC much better than going backwards from PC to Playbook and pinching the controls down.

There is full Adobe AIR support but from what I've read it does seem quite clunky to integrate with the Playbook when you start talking about digital certificate validation, developers mode and the conversion to .bar files etc so I am hoping RIM make the Adobe AIR functionality better in the future to better enhance the dashboard utility.
