You all have been so helpful. I'm moving forward with my playbook purchase. I've seen a few reasonably priced ones on ebay. I typically don't buy electronics from eBay, but I might reconsider. I would much rather buy new.

I have to say with the stock browser, load times aren't fantastic, however, it handles full web pages way smoother than my fire hd, or even my z10. Must be the scrolling engine or something because usually big sites on most tablets stutter but not here! Impressive for old hardware.

Agreed. I think it has to be flash/java components in webpages. It is too bad that they are resource intensive but so ubiquitous. If you turn off flash and java, the stock browser flies. Or use Fast or Origami browsers. They are faster than stock with Flash/Java enabled. PB or BB10 is still best mobile browser experience IMHO.

Definitely one of the best out there. Have origami, not sure if it's as smooth though.

I got mine used for $50+shipping on ebay. Condition is subjective of course, but I wouldn't suggest spending too much more than that for 16gb versions, just because of end of life and whatnot.

Yes I agree with the posts above about repurposing the Playbook ... I also loaded dosbox and have loaded an image of windows 95 and actually run that on the Playbook! It is more of a fun thing but the device is great for so many things and there is easy access to storage and side loading tools.

I wish BlackBerry would open it up further and provide OTG USB functionality. That would be awesome! Or if there was the ability for the playbook to act as a display for DNLA purposes.

I use it with my old torch 9810 to control presentations on blackberry bridge. It is a great little versatile device but if you want to be spoonfed then go Apple iPad. If you understand the limits and willing to think outside the box and since the price is dirt cheap, the Playbook is a good device to kick around for as long as it will go.... Technology keeps progressing so just buy what you think is worth it for the time you are going to use it.

My PB should come in the mail tomorrow. What is the latest OS - 2.0? Are there PB leaks as with mobile devices? If so, let me know...

2.1 is the latest, I think the leaks were for the 4G models that are carrier dependent for updates.
