Will current pb apps work in BB10?
Hey everyone!
Sorry if this has been asked before - I looked on the forums first but didn't see anything. When BB10 comes out in the spring will the apps available in AppWorld now still work? I know that OS2 is similar to BB10 but I'd read an article that suggested they wouldn't be compatible.
I only ask because I just bought a Playbook and want to load it up with apps but I don't want to waste money!
As an aside, I really love the PlayBook so far. I was a Google girl for awhile but when I realized I could scoop up the 32g pb for $150 (in canada) I had to do it. My galaxy is a great phone with so many good apps, but I've never had a tablet before and I wanted a zippy yet stable device.
Thanks for your help. And I apologize if I've put this in the wrong forum.

I believe the apps will require an update to work with BB10 as there are different APIs and whatnot available on BB10 SDK that aren't on Tablet OS.
Re: Will current pb apps work in BB10?
No.
The developer will at least need to log in to App World and mark the app as available for BB10. It is likely they will also have to re-package the app to add a higher resolution icon. They will probably have to tweak the app for the higher screen density and make sure the text and buttons are large enough.
Better developers will want to redesign their app for a phone form factor and phone use cases. They'll also want to take advantage of new facilities offered by BB10.

In the spring, did I might something.

Pretty much any *good* apps ought to be available for BB10. If a PlayBook developer hasn't gotten their app ported over, modified, tweaked, or just repackaged and relabelled (so to speak) for BB10, you should probably consider them to be out of the business of supporting BlackBerry and look at their competition for options with more of a future. It's not like RIM hasn't provided ample time, information, tools, and assistance for anyone with the least inclination to get their PB app up on BB10.

This still raises somehow an issue which is, if an OS upgrade is announced to BB10, ordinary users will fear a situation where by applying the upgrade they'll lose half of their current apps...
A situation very different from, for instance, the recent OS2.1 upgrade where I consider 99% of the posts here "2.1-haz-killed-this-feature" are plain errors.
As moreover the devs won't be able to directly contact their users to announce 'mine works' let's hope RIM will somehow provide with some 'analyser for your apps' within App World...

Hassle. Upside is many of the toy apps submitted to get free PB will not make the jump. Downside is app numbers used for marketing will drop.

You raise some excellent points with that. It's worth asking RIM for more details on the way the upgrade will work... though I suspect there's no real urgency for now, given the timeline.
