I heard OS 2.1 could be released Tuesday. But, why don't they give official announcements of when they are releasing the updates?
Because even RIM doesn't know...
And even when they do, they often change their mind - you can have it, no you can't... ;)
That kind of announcement would create an expectation of a release...accountability
I like how apple tells their consumers the DAY to expect the next iOS and actually releases it on that day.
Apple- September 12, 2012
RIM- Q1 of 2013 TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL, haha
BIG DIFFERENCE THERE, ISN'T IT?
RIM is.........................................well, I'll let Bla1ze say it.
"RIM has a habit of switching dates at the last minute" - Bla1ze.
If they announce a date then they may be forced to release something they're not happy with OR hold off and be heavily criticized for failing to deliver.
Neither one is good.
They don't want to be caught with the "60 days" promise again...
You have to admit to one thing though, Apple has a year to deliver a new phone (same phone THAT IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT but stretched) and a new OS (same OS THAT IS TOTALLY GOING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE that has new maps...) and RIM has to create a TOTALLY NEW phone and OS.
Apple has always done the totally new "prank" on people but it's the same old device.
An example of what the world with "special goggles" looks like.

Yes, but they shouldn't announce a date and be late on it. That's not cool!
Dude...
Apple should have changed their freakin' release date for iPhone5 and iOS6.
It has more problems than the last release, the most horrible being maps. WTF is so great about showing up and screwing up at the same time?
I just did a 1mb update. I'm on beta 2.1.0.840. Not sure what that update is about.
I am on 840 and just received notification that I have a 1 meg update as well but going to wait until tomorrow when I am plugged in
I believe the phrase governments use is "plausible deniability". ;)
Much better for RIM to quietly tip BB websites, "mistakenly" forward internal emails containing release dates to bloggers (Bla1ze *cough*), "accidentally" leave doors open during BB events so that internal slides with dates can be photographed, etc, etc.
That gets the dates out there, and if they're met, everyone is happy. And if the dates slip?,... well..., RIM never made any official announcements did they? RIM can't be held responsible for rumour and speculation, can they?
Thus far, it seems to be a successful strategy for RIM.
I know especially the playbook launch which was late anyway.

I thought it had something to do with security.
All I know is that I have given up on any dates rumored or otherwise. I come to the forums to see if there is anything new. RIM has failed miserably with this.
Theme - Apple always gives them something new. When promised. OK, the maps didn't work well... Big deal.
Stewart - If RIM is unhappy with their product, they should just keep it under wraps. BB10 is going to be delivered way too late in my opinion. Windows tablets will be out and the iPad will have gotten yet another update and the Kindle Fire HD will have already taken another chunk out of the market.
I'm almost tempted to get me an HP Touchpad and just fully root it. The worst part of it all is that the PlayBook really is a great piece of hardware...
Lets hope its tomorrow, but in my case, i dont believe it, so if it comes out, i'll be happy, if it doesnt, life goes on, the same way :p
The thing with the maps is obviously indicating that fixed announced release dates are not the way to go either. That part wasn't ready to go live yet, was it? However the fans probably don't care.
The Apple fan club just want a shiny new piece of metal and glass. It's like jewelry to them.
Absolutely, Apple painted themselves into a corner, and started screwing themselves with the iPhone 4, due to improperly testing it. They were more concerned with marketing and mystique than delivering a product that was actually good.
I just got the same 1mb update
Apple to its OS people.....The new phone will be announced next September, have an updated OS for it ready by June, oh and it only needs a few extra bits as the UI is staying the same as the last 5 times......
RIM to its OS people.......OK you have to write a completely new OS with a new UI and a completely new way of using a phone. At the same time you have to work with the hardware people so that everything is perfect from the start as this will make or break the business.....
So its Apple with built in app updates having a year for its update or RIM with something unlike anything else out there. Which would you expect to be able to announce a date and meet it. As has been said Apple have dropped the ball big time on Maps and are getting loads of bad press over it but will survive anyway. RIM if they release something that is not perfect will risk the company going down the toilet so I am not surprised they have not given a firm date.
RIM posted PB 2.1 and Bridge 2.1 documents today. Must be real close now. :D
iOS 6 pretty good with the exception of the maps. Just because the maps didn't work out as well as they thought, it doesn't mean they won't release small updates to fix theses issues. At least apple updates their native apps, whereas RIM can't even release a small update for their FB app,Bing Maps...or adobe reader.
It's been almost 2 years without an update for adobe reader. Can't even bookmark a page...:(
I could not have said it better :D
