My rep at RIM (Canada) is giving me a post-prod LTE PlayBook before the end of July...no firm date.

Based on earlier dealings, I would guess another month for the production unit hits the shelf...just a guess

I have no idea when or if but when or if it happens, you won't need to start a thread to find out.

On the new bb device road map it said around Q4 I think. No exact date though.

I couldn't find it on CB, it must be on another site I saw it.

If RIM is smart they'll start a marketing blitz early and you won't need to ask in here. Fingers crossed for success.

Its the only thing they should be marketing at this time. Playbook is actually a very good device.

Its odd....I used one in May and was told by the RIM employee who had it that it would launch in Canada in June...a symptom of how difficult it is for RIM to manage its product development and launch cycles

I hope they grab their balls and market the heck out of the PlayBook. When people pick one up and spend some time with it, they love it! I own a PlayBook and it's a shame there's been no marketing behind it. I'm all for RIM!

Why the is RIM releasing (supposedly) basically the exact same tablet almost two years later with almost no upgrades other than 4G! Isn't it even the same outdated processor only clocked higher at 1.5ghz! I will literally sell my Playbook (which I love and constantly defend) just out of principle, if they release something so blatantly stupid.

If they want the Playbook 4G to sell and become popular, they will make it fully featured and price competitive on launch. They should at least improve screen size to 1280x800, maybe a hair lighter (not thinner so the OEM keyboard will still work), more RAM or quad core processor and have as many desired apps in native form as they can (you know which ones).

This isn't asking too much, just being realistic.

    RIM is not Apple (tm).

Their goal is not to make all of their PlayBook owners dish out a crazy sum of money for a slightly upgraded device. They are intentionally selling an equal power device for those who truly require a 4G device over a Bridged device (i.e. Android users with PB who dont want mobile hotspot running). They do not want a large 4G userbase. This is their first 4G PlayBook, they are using it to test the water for BB10 against 4G.

You may notice, RIM is going very carefully with QNX. They have large business contracts and cant risk the exposure.

If you want a smaller, faster, better 4G device - then dont buy a PlayBook 4G buy a BB10 device when they are available - it is really the market targeted for you imo.

Creating a million slightly upgraded devices is what killed RIM in support and development costs the first time.
