I use battery guru to keep track of my battery usage. I've had my PB since January 2012. In that time, Battery Guru says I've recharged it 68 times! That's 3.7 times per month! My current battery health is 90%. I use my PB a couple times a month in a good month.

How do those stats compare to yours?

My voltage seems low compared to everyone elses. I bought mine in early January of this year, BG says it's currently at: 89% health, 69 recharge cycles, 3.71 voltage. I've always found the battery to run out quickly, especially when wifi is on (3-4 hours). The screen is also at minimum brightness.

4.2 is the nominal max charge for a li-ion battery such as the PB uses. At 3.71V it's running at about 30% I'd guess. Shuts down at, what, around 3.5V or so if I recall.

I had a similar problem, and someone recommended letting the PlayBook run from full charged right the way down to zero a couple of times (ie use it until it turns itself off). This allows the OS to re-calibrate the battery, and should improve the life you get from it.

Note1: This is not reconditioning the battery, just letting the OS re-work out the usable range of charge so that you should get more usage time.

Note2: Don't wait too long after it has turned itself off before putting it back on charge (a few hours should be ok, but don't leave it for several days for example) some people have had trouble charging if the battery is allowed to run down TOO much. I have never had any problems, but I if I ever let the charge get down to zero, I always make sure I get it back on charge fairly promptly.

I just realized I've had the Playbook longer (since September). If it's still under warranty is this something that should be fixed? The battery life does not seem to meet reviews, especially since backlight is at 0. I'll try using all of the battery a couple of times and see if it recalibrates first.

Also, it's probably worth noting that there's a slight bulge in the back as well though I've read this is a common issue with the PB.

This is a pre-order unit used daily with no major issues ever (knock on wood).
I'm at 83%, 589 re-charge count. This thing is damn near bullet proof. It's a shame BB will no longer support this product.

It might be covered by warranty. They will probably ask that you fully charge it and discharge it TWICE and report back. So you might be able to convince them you have done it already if you do call for assistance.

The PB has a one year warranty to the original purchaser. It also has 90 free Tech support. I do not know how Rim deals with "quasi-tech support v. warranty"

Thanks for your help. It was at 30% last night and I charged it to full capacity (then continued to leave it on the charger for another hour). Right now BG says it's at 4.08 voltage, so it seems to be fluctuating. Maybe it is fine and the readings are just all over the place. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

I don't buy a lot of apps but Battery Guru is definitely worth the price if you are interested in tracking battery usage. There used to be a free one that was almost as good but with 2.0 update it doesn't work anymore.
